ABOUT THE GAMES

  • Millersville is ranked No. 3 in this week's NCBWA Atlantic Region Poll behind Seton Hill (No. 1) and Charleston (No. 2). Other PSAC teams appearing in the poll include Mercyhurst (No. 4), West Chester (No. 6), Slippery Rock (No. 7), Cal U (No. 8), and Shepherd (No. 10).
  • Entering the weekend, Millersville remains in first place in the PSAC East Standings with a conference record of 19-8. Second place belongs to West Chester University (17-9), who is one game back in the loss column. Kutztown (11-17) is seventh out of nine teams in the East standings. West Chester faces Lock Haven (6-18, ninth place) in the Golden Rams’ final series of the regular season.
  • Millersville swept the season series versus Kutztown in 2019 by a combined run total of 21-9.
  • The Marauders lead the PSAC in hits with 308 total and the team’s collective batting average (.320) is ranked third-highest in the conference behind West Chester (.347) and Seton Hill (.323).
  • Millersville sophomore outfielder Bren Taylor is making a case for PSAC Player of the Year honors. He leads the conference in hits (47), is second in average (.435), and is fourth in on-base percentage (.527).
  • Likewise, senior Jeff Taylor should be in contention for PSAC East Pitcher of the Year. He has won six straight starts and has the third-lowest ERA (2.72) in the conference, along with 47 strikeouts and a .204 batting average against.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • Kutztown’s offense features a pair of batters above the .300 mark: Ethan Martini (.363, nine doubles, 25 RBIs) and Collin Bishop (.306, 11 doubles, three home runs).
  • The Golden Bears’ most effective starter is Zach Male (6-1, 3.13 ERA, 37.1 IP, 40 strikeouts). Zach Peters (2-0, one save, 2.00 ERA, sixteen strikeouts in six appearances) has been the stopper out of the bullpen.
  • Kutztown is coming off of a 3-1 series loss to West Chester but earned a split with East Stroudsburg in that regular season series on April 16-17.
We've got quality starters going this weekend. Just a matter of pounding the strike zone, keeping a defensive rhythm, and we'll be fine."
