  • Entering the weekend, Millersville remains in first place in the PSAC East Standings with a conference record of 16-7. Second place belongs to West Chester University (14-8), who is one game back in the loss column. Mansfield (9-15) is eighth out of nine teams in the East standings.

  • The Ville leads the entire PSAC in hits with 276 total, as does Bren Taylor with his 43 hits in 2021.
  • Millersville starting pitcher Conor Cook has tossed two straight complete game shutouts. Over those last 14 innings he has allowed five hits, four walks, and struck out 17 batters.
  • Due to poor field conditions at Mansfield, all four games of the series will be played at Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University on Saturday and Sunday.
  • After an extended absence, Millersville head coach Jon Shehan returns to the dugout beginning with Saturday's doubleheader.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • Mansfield's offense features as trio of batters that are batting above .300: freshman Zach Shertzer (.370, nine doubles, 22 RBIs), senior Tyler Melko (.322, nine home runs, 24 RBIs), and junior Ben Osborne (.314, 15 runs scored, five doubles).
  • The Mountaineer pitching staff is led by senior Hunter DePrimo (5-2, 4.35 ERA, 41.1 innings pitched, 61 strikeouts).
  • Mansfield is 5-5 in its last 10 games and is coming off of a 3-1 series win versus Shippensburg University.
I'm thrilled to be back and I want to publicly thank our coaching staff, starting with David Baker and Ryan Kramer, for holding down the fort while I was out. It was humbling and an awesome test for our program. I think we passed.
Jon Shehan, head coach

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS FROM COACH SHEHAN

  • "We have two opponents left over the final two weeks that have been playing well and cannot be taken lightly. Our job is to control what we can and play one pitch at a time. That's been the mantra for years and it's worked so we will stick with it."
