ABOUT THE MEET

  • A little over a year since the two teams last met, Millersville takes the pool in Anttonen Natatorium to face East Stroudsburg in the 2021 season opener on Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m.
  • The two teams went head-to-head three times last year. The Marauders last faced the Warriors just weeks before the PSAC Championships at the ESU Invitational. Millersville came up short and the Warriors took first with 90 points.
  • The Marauders’ roster has grown significantly from last year adding seven new faces to the lineup. Alexis Shollenberger, Maddi Stoner, and Amanda Simon are the only returning members from the 2019-20 season.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

  • The Warriors return 10 members from the previous year’s roster including four seniors.
  • East Stroudsburg held a 5-3 dual meet record overall and 3-2 record while on the road in the 2019-20 season.
  • The meet against the Marauders will serve as the only dual meet for the Warriors this season.

ABOUT THE SENIORS

  • Alexis Shollenberger has entered her fourth year as a Marauder. She is currently ranked at fourth all-time in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.33), sixth all-time in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.15), and tied for seventh all-time in the 50-yard freestyle (24.98). Shollenberger saw four top-20 finishes in the PSAC Championships for the 2019-20 season.
  • Amanda Simon is an academic senior who has now entered her second season as a Marauder. During the 2019-20 she finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.22), third in both the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.90) and 1000-yard freestyle (12:58.73), as well as claimed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.89). Simon was named a PSAC Scholar-Athlete for the 2019-20 season.
2020 is behind us and I cannot wait to see what 2021 has in store for Ville Swimming. I am so excited to see what my teammates and I are going to be able to accomplish in this unprecedented season!

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH ERIC USBECK

  • On the start of the season: “With all of the freshmen they have competed at some pretty high levels, state qualifiers. We have a lot of high performing experiences. They’re going to be able to handle it. They are just very eager and excited to be back competing. They’re going to surprise themselves a bit. Our upperclassmen are going to show them how to stay calm, relax, and enjoy the moment. We’re just super excited to compete. We’re ready.”
  • On Alexis Shollenberger: “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching and working with Alexis for two years now. She’s been phenomenal for us. Athletically, she is very consistent, hard working. She has a great personality, very vibrant. She has been a leader for our program. She has both in the pool and out of the pool focus. I am going to be sad to see her go.”
  • On Amanda Simon: “Amanda time as a Marauder was unexpected. She hadn’t swam in two years when she joined the team. She missed the sport and wanted to give it another opportunity. Academically, she is a 4.0 student. She is very determined to get her doctorate. Athletically, she’s been great. It has been a comeback story. She just kept fighting, pushing, and challenging herself to see what she could do. She has been a very positive member for our team. In her two years here, she has absolutely helped to transform the program.”
