Millersville defeats Cedar Crest with four first-place finishers

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Millersville women's swim team saw four first-place finishes in the dual meet against East Stroudsburg and Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon on the road. The Marauders defeated Cedar Crest 109-98, but couldn't overcome East Stroudsburg dropping the contest 150-68.

Maddi Stoner was the first Marauder to come up with a victory on the day taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Stoner touched the wall in 1:13.86, just under two seconds ahead of the Warriors' Sarah Luigard.

Simon, who took third in the 100 breast, came out on top in the 200-yard breaststroke. The freshman completed the race with a final time of 2:44.14 almost seven seconds ahead of second-place finisher Julia Harnish.

Jessica Berry was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle. The senior was the only swimmer to touch the wall in under a minute with a final time of 58.23. Berry recorded a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly completing the race in 1:06.21.

Madisson Cartmill earned her 16th first-place finish of the season in the 100-yard butterfly. The senior touched the wall in 1:03.77. Cartmill earned second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:38.63. This was the first time Cartmill has swam in the fly this season.

The squad of Simon, Cartmill and Stoner were joined by Alexis Shollenberger in the 200-yard medley relay. The group came in second place with a time of 1:58.63.

Shollenberger, Simon and Stoner added Berry to the group for 400-yard freestyle relay. The squad earned a second-place finish touching the wall in 4:02.47.

"We competed well with the other teams considering the amount and different type of training we have been doing the past few weeks," said head coach Eric Usbeck, "We have a good idea of where our training is and are ready to continue preparing for PSAC's."

The Marauders will go toe-to-toe with East Stroudsburg for the third time this season when they travel the team's home pool for the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Feb. 1 at 12 p.m.
