Volleyball falls on alumni day

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University volleyball team (7-15) fell at home on Saturday as East Stroudsburg University earned the 3-0 sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
27-25, 25-19, 25-23
  • The first set was the closest of the match, as the score was separated by two points or fewer for the majority of the set. Ville had a chance to close out, leading 24-23 before a rally from East Stroudsburg allowed the Warriors to come back and take a 1-0 advantage.
  • Set two featured streakier play, as lengthy rallies were traded back and forth. With the Warriors up 19-16 East Stroudsburg would go on a five-point run, increasing their lead to 24-16. Millersville rallied off three points to close the gap, but the Marauders were unable to complete the comeback.
  • The third set started off with an 8-3 Warrior lead. Ville was able to rally for an 8-8 tie. The set was close until the end, with the score tied at 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, and 23 before a two-point Warrior rally ended the match, securing the sweep for East Stroudsburg.

Quote from Caitlyn Callahan:
On playing in the Alumni Day Match:
"It's very important… obviously they all played here and had winning seasons here too, so it was nice having them come out and support us."

Quote from Head Coach Brian Smith
On expanding the rotation for the third set:
"We did get some players game speed experience in set three. It's important to see what other players can do when some are performing well. It also reminds all players that we have to continue to work toward a more consistent and competitive program."
