Get to Know the Marauders: Men's Basketball's Casey Stitzel

"Get to Know the Marauders" is a feature that gives fans a more in-depth look at the coaches and staff of Millersville Athletics. Casey Stitzel has coached the Millersville men's basketball program for four seasons, leading it to three-straight postseason appearances. Stitzel came to Millersville after a successful tenure as the head coach at Delaware Valley. Stitzel scored over 1,000 career points at Widener. Best thing about being a Marauder? "Working at a great university, with good people looking to make a positive impact on every student athlete!"
 
Favorite coaching moment? "The first conference championship for Delaware Valley University after winning the first championship in school history in front of a sold out gym."
 
Favorite memory as an athlete or fan? "Going to see Kobe Bryant win the district championship as a fan and winning the league championship at Lansdale Catholic as a player for Coach Mooney who is now the head coach of Richmond."
 
StitzelFavorite professional athlete?  "Kobe Bryant because of his toughness, winning mentality and he is the best competitor I have ever watched."
 
Most amazing on-court moment from your coaching career? "Winning our first playoff game in our rebuild in front of a packed gym at Millersville University after all of the adversity our team has went through this year."
 
Books that inspired you as a coach? "'Toughness' by Jay Bilas and 'Mindset' by Carol Dweck."
 
Who inspired you to coach? "My father, Glenn Stitzel, inspired me to coach after going to a lot of his games as a kid. I have been blessed to have three great mentors as a player and assistant coach in Coach Mooney at Lansdale Catholic, Coach Duda at Widener and Hall of Fame Coach Herb McGee at Philadelphia University."
 
Funniest player you've coached? "It's very close but Khari Williams took the cake this year for sure."
 
Favorite bus ride activity? "Listening to music, checking Twitter and catching up with coaching friends."
 
What do you do in your time away from the sport? "Love the beach, spending time with my wife and kids and exercising."

Three movies you could watch any time?  "Rocky movies, 'Hoosiers' and 'Wedding Crashers.'"
 
Your workout or car trip playlist? "I like Tupac, Biggie Smallz, Jay Z, Old School hip hop, Pandora and Sirius XM Radio."
 
Favorite series to binge watch? "'Two and A Half Men.'"
 
What would you do if you weren't coaching? "I would be an athletic director or start my own basketball training gym with skill development and shooting sessions."
 
What is a talent that fans wouldn't know about? "Back when I was in high school I was a really good pitcher."
