MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - A pair of PSAC Outdoor Championships runner-up finishes and the program's best-ever finish at the PSAC Indoor Championships are among the significant contributions made by the 14 seniors of the Millersville track and field program, whose careers came to a close prior to the start of the 2020 outdoor season.
Twelve members of the class competed at a PSAC Championship event and six scored points for Millersville at a PSAC track and field championship. Not only did the group excel in competition, the senior class also helped the program achieve USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in each year of their careers. In 2019-20, the team led all Millersville teams with 24 PSAC Scholar-Athletes, nine of which came from the the 2020 graduating class.
SENIOR CLASS THOUGHTS FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
Q: When you think of this senior class, what will you remember?
A: "This was one of the biggest freshmen classes in Millersville cross country and track and field history when they arrived. They are the biggest group of seniors we have had to this point. They were the start of large growth in our team numbers and also a changing in the team culture that helped this team finish second at the PSAC Outdoor Championship the past two years. They had their growing pains for sure but the commitment level of this group of women to both school, track and field and positive team environment really helped our program get to very high levels both athletically and personally."
Q: What achievements are you most proud of for this class?
A: "Definitely the team positivity and work ethic of this group. They were a loud, proud and a fun group to be around, and they helped me become a better and more caring coach."
Q: What will be the legacy of this senior class?
A: "Achievements are nice but your character and how you carry yourself in this world are what truly matter in the life. Even when they knew they lost this season, they understood the why and appreciated what they did get to experience. That type of character I hope keeps percolating down to future generations of land pirates."
