ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Millersville University junior Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno placed 36th in leading the cross country team at the four-team Navy Invitational Saturday afternoon.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville finished fourth behind East Carolina, which landed six runners in the top seven, Navy and UMBC. Millersville the only non-Divison I team in the field.
• Rijo-Cedeno ran a 25:06.81, placing 36th in the 65-runner field.
• Millersville's No. 2 finisher was Natalie Poulton, who ran a 26:01.41 for 45th place. Emily Bland (26:29.65), Elizabeth Rudderow (26:30.99) and Kaitlyn Leister (26:46.21) finished back-to-back-to-back in places 48 through 50 respectively.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
• On running against strong competition: "That was a tough race against some solid D1 schools. I was happy that we competed well but we have plenty of room to improve."
• What is the team's next step for improvement?: "We talked as a group about how we need to pack run better. Today some people got pulled out into the fast pace during the first mile which hurt our strategy of keeping many of our women together in order to help each other and keep our team scorer lower. We will definitely work hard at keeping our packs together next week."
• On today's standout performances: "Yoangelys had a good race and mixed it up toward the front of the race for most of the day."
NOTES
• Millersville had 13 runners compete in the meet.
• East Carolina's Nuria Tillo-Prats took first place with a time of 22:21.10.
• Rijo-Cedeno has been Millersville's top finisher in back-to-back meets.
UP NEXT
• Millersville runs at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The race starts at 11:30 a.m.
