KINGSVILLE, Texas - Millersville University's Sunflower Greene is looking to close her career with another top-of-the-podium finish while sophomore teammate Aliyah Striver makes her debut at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Greene's busy weekend starts on Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m., in the hammer throw. She qualified in the discus for the first time, and that event is set for Friday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m. The Marauder duo will then compete in the shot put on Saturday, May 25 at 2:15 p.m.
In the hammer, Greene is slated to throw fourth in the second flight. Greene is the 11th thrower in the 12-athlete first flight in the discus. In the shot put, Striver is the fifth thrower in the first flight while Greene is 10th in the second flight. Both flights have 12 athletes.
GREENE'S 2019 OUTDOOR SEASON
• After winning her second-consecutive national championship in the indoor shot put, Greene is seeded third heading into Thursday's event. Her season-best of 52-6 3/4 came at the Penn Relays, where she placed fifth behind four Division I competitors. The 2019 indoor runner-up, Lindsay Baker of Ashland, is the No. 1 seed Thursday at 53-10 1/4.
• Greene opened the outdoor season by winning all three events and setting meet records in the hammer and shot put at the Millersville Metrics. Her 200-3 in the hammer stands as her season best and is also an all-time PSAC record. It has held up as the No.1 mark in Division II all season and she enters the event as the No. 1 seed ahead of MacKenzie Leigh of Ashland, who owns a best of 199-3. Nine of the top 10 athletes in the hammer throw are seniors.
• Greene qualified 19th in the discus with a career-best toss of 160-8 at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. The mark gave Greene her first conference championship in the discus. Angelo State's Daisy Osakue is the favorite with a mark of 201-3.
• Greene won her second-consecutive PSAC Outdoor Athlete of the Meet award and won her third consecutive outdoor PSAC title in the shot put and hammer.
• Greene is one of only four athletes who will compete in all three events. While Osakue is not in all three throwing events, she will compete in the discus, shot put and high jump.
STRIVER'S 2019 OUTDOOR SEASON
• Striver's career-best mark of 48-8 1/4 came at the May 3 Lock Haven Last Chance Meet. That heave put her 20th in Division II. The mark was also a dramatic jump from her indoor season-best of 44-5 1/2 hit on Jan. 18. It was also an improvement of 5-7 3/4 over her 2018 outdoor best.
• In addition to her win at the Lock Haven meet, Striver also won the shot put at the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet with a toss of 43-1 1/2. She placed runner-up in the shot put four times (always to Greene). Striver took third at the PSAC Championships with a mark of 45-8 1/2. She also scored points for the Marauders in the discus (fourth) and the hammer (fifth).
GREENE'S CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
• Greene won back-to-back national championships in the indoor shot put and is looking to add an outdoor championship to her resume. Greene was the national runner-up in the shot put in 2018 after hitting a career-best 52-10. She placed 19th in the hammer throw (165-8) in 2018.
• Greene placed fourth (50-6) in the shot put at the 2017 outdoor championships for All-America honors and placed 20th (157-8) in the hammer throw. Millersville has never before produced an All-American in two events at the same outdoor championships.
• Including the indoor season, Greene is a six-time All-American with five of those honors coming in the shot put. Greene's best finish in a non-shot put event was 10th in the weight throw at the 2019 indoor championships.
• At the 2018 outdoor championships, Greene was edged by West Texas A&M's Zada Swoopes, who hit 54-2 1/2. Swoopes is in the field again with a season-best of 51-5 3/4. She is seeded seventh.
STRIVER'S CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

Greene also qualified for the first time as a sophomore. Striver's 48-8 1/4 is not far off of Greene's sophomore season best of 48-11 1/2.
