STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Millersville University women's golf team erased 24 shots from its round one total on Sunday afternoon, moving up one spot into third place in a five-team field at the East Stroudsburg Invitational at Glen Brook Golf Club.
The Marauders ended the 2018-19 season with a tournament total of 724. Millersville posted a 374 on day one and then finished with a 350. West Chester won the team title with a 632 while Kutztown's Rachel Tarnopoll earned the individual medalist with a 151 after shooting 79-72.
TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
• Hannah Yanoski led the team as she placed in 11th in the field. She opened the tournament with an 87 on Saturday and then improved by six shots on Sunday, recording a 9-over 81.
• Alexandra Craig earned her sixth top-25 finish after shooting an opening 94 and then carding a 91. Craig finished the tournament in a tie for 18th.
• Cassandra Vogel ended up in a tie for 18th. She had the largest gap between rounds at 13 strokes. Vogel opened the tournament with a 99 and then responded by shooting an 86.
• Joelie Bennett placed in 22nd and shot rounds of 94 and 92, totaling 186 in the tournament.
WHAT HEAD COACH SCOTT VANDEGRIFT SAYS
• "That is a great accomplishment for Cassandra as she posted her lowest round in her career."
• "For them, they know that their season is done as far as tournaments. They want to continue to practice as a team until the cut off time before finals week. They want to continue to practice right up until the cutoff. That is not what normally goes on for some teams. Usually they put the clubs aside and don't usually see them practice after that final tournament."
• "I think that all players had trouble with the greens. The golf course was extremely wet so the greens must of played a lot slower than what they are used to."
• "The most important thing is that they always want to get better. They are not satisfied in what they are doing now."
NOTES
• Vogel tied her career low round on the final day. Her previous low was an 86 at the Brown Intercollegiate Invitational early this spring.
• Yanoski recorded her 18th top-25 finish.
• The Marauders head into next year with one senior--Danielle Greene--graduating and with the rest of the squad returning.
