RICHMOND, Va. - The Millersville University women's track and field team closed its first meet of the 2019 outdoor season Saturday. Lenaiya Flowers' first-place finish in 200-meter dash highlighted the team's performances.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Flowers ran a career best and PSAC Championships qualifying time of 25.60, besting a field of 52 runners and edging Shippensburg's Zarria Williams by one-tenth of a second.
• Aliyah Striver and Madison Martin finished 2-3 in the non-Division I flight of the discus. Striver hit 136-2 and Martin posted a 132-5--both PSAC Championships qualifying marks and the second and third longest throws in the PSAC so far this season.
• Brianna Doherty (fourth), Destinee Holloman (fifth), and Kay Liebl (eighth) all cracked the top 10 in the non-Division I flight of the long jump. Doherty's 16-11 1/4 led the way.

• The 4x400-meter relay team of Flowers, Kay Liebl, Forney and Rijo-Cedeno placed third out of 11 in the non-Division I group with a time of 3:59.33
COACH ANDY YOUNG QUOTES
• "Flowers had a good day. The 200 is there to help her run a better 400, but she ran a competitive time. She also anchored our 4x400 in 56.4, which is quite impressive. We are excited to see where her season goes."
• "We had a couple rough hand-offs in the 4x100, so the time was good for that and we hope for much better once we get things smoother."
• "We definitely need to keep working but happy to see some positive performances from many people today."
NOTES
• The 4x100-meter relay team's time was the seventh-fastest in program history, edging ahead of the 48.33 run by Erika Smith, Leequan Ray, Keli Caldwell and Melissa McLaughlin in 1985. Doherty and Holloman were on the relay team that set the school record at 47.03 in 2018.
• Flowers beat her previous career best in the 200 by a full second. She ran the event just twice in her freshman outdoor season.
