
Women’s swimming claims first in two events at the Millersville Relay Carnival

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville University swimming team finished its first meet of the season by taking first in two of the 10 events at the Millersville Relay Carnival in the Anttonen Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders came in fourth-place overall with 70 points. Kutztown finished in first place with 108 points. East Stroudsburg took second with 98 points and Lock Haven took third with 80 points.
Millersville won both the 300-yard butterfly and 400-yard medley relay. The Marauders placed second in the 400-yard freestyle individual medley relay.
The 300-yard butterfly team included Maddi Stoner, Jessica Berry and Maddie Cartmill. The trio touched the wall with a final time of 3:10.45, just under six seconds ahead of second-place Kutztown.
Cartmill, Berry and Stoner were joined by Alexis Shollenberger for the 400-yard medley relay. The team claimed first with a final time of 4:18.06, about seven seconds ahead of second-place Kutztown.
Lucia Martin joined the ranks of Stoner, Berry and Shollenberger for the 400-yard freestyle individual medley relay. The squad earned a final time of 4:03.64 for second place.
Cartmill earned her first PSAC cut of the season in the 100 back portion of the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 59.16.
Head Coach Eric Usbeck is proud of how the team performed in and out of the pool today.
"Today we did a great job supporting each other and bringing high energy. It helped to create an environment that breaded some fast swimming," stated Usbeck, "We were really supportive cheering each other on during every event. We really bonded with each other's success."
The Marauders are back in the pool on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Anttonen Natatorium against Lock Haven.
