BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville women's cross country team finshed 14th at Friday's PSAC Championship, and leading the way was junior Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno, who ran a career-best time and recorded the best finish by a Marauder since 2013.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Rijo-Cedeno placed 18th in the 178-runner field, scoring her an All-PSAC Second Team finish. She posted a time of 23:23.2--the first time in her career that she ran a sub-24-minute 6K race. The time stands as the 17th-fastest in program history and the fastest by a Marauder since 2015. Her finish was the best by a Marauder at the PSAC Championship since Shannon Cruz's 18th-place finish in 2013.
• The team totaled 337 points, finishing ahead of Mercyhurst, Mansfield and Pitt-Johnstown.
• Emily Bland was Millersville's No. 2 finisher, placing 66th with a time of 24:44.7. It was her best-ever finish at the PSAC Championship and her time was her second-fastest of the season.
• Natalie Poulton finished 75th with a time of 24:56.0. Elizabeth Rudderow placed 90th with a time of 25:17.8. Freshman Abbey Sullivan, running just her third race of the season, rounded out Millersville's top five with a 25:18.9 in 93rd place. Freshman Kait Leister ran a career best time of 25:34.6 and finished in 103rd. Jillian Miller shaved more than three minutes and 39 spots off of her previous season's finish at the championship, placing 104th.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
• "Yoangelys ran the best race of her career. It's nice to see her confidence and work ethic improving."
• "Our team got better today but the rest of the conference did an exceptional job of improving more. It was an exciting race to watch and we mixed it well but came up a little short. This team as a group is getting close to having a team break through. With a little more work and experience they will have a big jump."
NOTES
• Edinboro won the team championship with 60 points. Edinboro had the top two individual finishers, three in the top five and four in the top 10. West Chester finished second with 95 points.
• Edinboro's Stefanie Parsons won the race by 13 seconds with a time of 21:43.8.
UP NEXT
• Millersville competes in the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Nov. 9 in Lock Haven, Pa.
