LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Millersville women's cross country team's season came to a close Saturday at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship, finishing 18th in a field of 22 teams. Yoangelys Rijo-Cedeno led the Marauders with a 35th-place finish.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Rijo-Cedeno posted a 22:48.8--1:12.5 faster than she ran on the same course on Sept. 21. It was a career-best time by nearly 35 seconds and the 10th-fastest time in program history. It was the fastest 6K time by a Marauder since Shannon Cruz ran a 21:30.9 six years ago to the day. Her 35th-place finish was the highest by a Marauder since 2016.
• Emily Bland ran No. 2 behind Rijo-Cedeno, placing 82nd with a career-best time of 23:46.2. That mark was 35 seconds faster than her previous best, which was also run at Lock Haven earlier this season.
• Freshman Abbey Sullivan, running for just the fourth time this season, ran a career-best 24:18.7 to finish in 107th. That time was a full minute faster than she ran at the PSAC Championship two weeks ago.
• Natalie Poulton ran fourth for the Marauders, posting a career-best time of 24:23.6 for 110th. Elizabeth Rudderow also ran a career-best time of 24:31.1 and placed 114th. Freshman Kait Leister rounded out Millersville's top five in 120th place with a time of 23:43.2--a time 41 seconds faster than her career best posted at the PSAC Championship. Jillian Miller, who finished two spots later in 122nd, broke the 25 minute mark for the first time in her career, finishing in 24:49.1.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH ANDY YOUNG
• "We had very solid performances across the board led by Rijo-Cedeno, Bland and Sullivan. Sullivan was especially impressive becoming our third runner today."
• "My hope is that (Rijo-Cedeno) continues to build on her success this season and takes her track season to a different level."
• "The team is definitely getting closer to being competitive asa group but we certainly have more work to do. Our motto this year was 'don't settle.' My wish for our team is they don't settle for this result and take things to the next level."
NOTES
• Edinboro won the team title with a total of 62 points. Davis & Elkins finshed a close second with 68.
• Edinboro's Stefanie Parsons, who won the PSAC Championship, won the regional with a time of 21:02.0. Teammate Hope Pietrocarlo ran a 21:19.6 for second place.
