Â
THE MATCH-UP
• Millersville is home for its second Thursday night home game and its third Thursday night game of the season. The Marauders are 38-28 all-time under the lights and 0-2 this season, falling in the season opener against Pace and at IUP. This is East Stroudsburg's third night game of the season as well, going 1-1 with a loss at Ferris State and a win at Seton Hill. It is East Stroudsburg's first Thursday night game since last season when Millersville went on the road and won, 12-0. Millersville has played seven Thursday games since 2014, going 2-5 in those games.Â
• Millersville has certainly faced one of the most challenging schedules of any team in the PSAC so far. The Marauders have played two nationally-ranked teams and played a road game at 3-1 Slippery Rock. Millersville's four opponents combine for a 13-3 record, and two of those losses belong to Pace. East Stroudsburg is Millersville's first opponent with a sub-.500 record.Â
• Millersville is looking for more production out of its offense after posting a season-high 16 points last week at West Chester. The Marauders rank last in the PSAC in scoring offense (10.8), last in total offense (246.5), last in rushing and last in sacks allowed.
Tony Staffieri played his first significant snaps of the season at West Chester and completed 18 of 26 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Staffieri also led the team in rushing and he will get the starting nod on Thursday. Staffieri is no stranger to that role. He started the six games in which he was healthy in 2017, and he started two games in 2016. In 17 career games played, he is 150 for 270 (.560) for 1,894 yards, 15 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and has rushed 176 times for 496 yards and five scores. He was named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 30 of last season.Â
• While the Marauders have struggled to get the ground game going, East Stroudsburg's defense is allowing 284.3 yards per game on the ground, ranking last in the PSAC. The Marauders rushed for 249 yards in last year's game against ESU.Â
• East Stroudsburg's offense has shown the ability to score in bunches, hitting 41 points twice in four games. Jaymar Anderson is the PSAC's leading rushing, averaging 146.3 yards per game. His eight rushing touchdowns are also a league-high. Anderson has carried the ball at least 21 times in each of his three games and topped the 100-yard mark twice. Wide receiver Jylil Reeder is fourth in the PSAC in yards.Â
• Anderson presents a challenge for a Millersville defense allowing 194.8 rushing yards per game. The Marauders, however, rank first in the league against the pass, allowing just 50 percent completions and 6.2 yards per completion. East Stroudsburg has totaled at least 392 yards of total offense in each of the last three games. Quarterback Ben Moser threw for 311 yards at Edinboro but has also thrown nine interceptions.Â
• Millersville needs a faster start Thursday. The Marauders have been outscored 69-3 in the first quarter, and three consecutive opponents have scored on the opening drive.Â

LAST WEEK
•
East Stroudsburg (vs. Lock Haven (L, 41-44)): Lock Haven scored 27 straight points spanning the third and fourth quarters and held off two late East Stroudsburg University scoring drives for a 44-41 win. Jaymar Anderson had 28 carries for 132 yards and two TD for ESU (1-3, 0-1), which led 14-0 early and 27-13 midway through the third quarter before Lock Haven's run. Redshirt freshman QB Jake Cirillo made his first career appearance in the fourth quarter for ESU and was 8-for-12 for 123 yards and two TD, throwing scoring passes of 10 and 30 yards to redshirt junior WR Anthony Guarino.
•
Millersville (at #13 West Chester (L, 16-42)): Tony Staffieri entered in the second quarter and rallied the Marauders for three scoring drives, but it was not enough against the 13th-ranked West Chester Golden Rams on the road. West Chester raced to a 28-0 lead and held on to win the PSAC East opener, 42-16. Staffieri threw touchdown passes to
Taiyir Wilson and
Chris Dolan.Â

• The series between Millersville and East Stroudsburg dates to 1948 and the teams have played once each season since. Millersville trails the all-time series 42-26-1 and scored 19 of those 26 wins between 1972 and 2000--when Dr. Gene A. Carpenter was at the helm. Since then, Millersville is 3-14 against East Stroudsburg. However, all three of those wins came on the road. The Marauders are 9-15-1 at home since Biemesderfer Stadium. The magic number for the Marauders seems to be 30. Millersville has never lost (11-0) to ESU when scoring at least 30 points. Last season, Millersville shut out East Stroudsburg for the first time since 1981 and held the Warriors under 34 points for the first time in five consecutive games. Millersville, however, has not scored more than 23 points since 2011 and has topped the 30-point mark just two times since 2000.Â
THE LAST MEETING (Millersville 12, East Stroudsburg 0, Oct. 5, 2017)
•
Tyrone Gibson rushed for a career-high 183 yards, and Millersville logged its first shutout since 2012 for a 12-0 win at East Stroudsburg Thursday evening under the lights. A Gibson rushing touchdown, a safety recorded on aÂ
Sean Dugan sack and a 41-yard field goal fromÂ
Joey Farley was all the scoring the Marauders needed to pick up its first win over the Warriors since 2011.
• While the Marauders scored in all three facets of the game--offense, defense and special teams--East Stroudsburg missed a field goal wide left in the first quarter, spoiling a 67-yard drive that started on the ESU 7. The next ESU drive reached the Millersville 17 before
Nate Hiligh sacked Moser for a loss of 10. The Warriors' field goal attempt was foiled by a low snap. Then, with Millersville nursing a 9-0 lead late in the third quarter, the Warriors were shut down on four consecutive snaps after reaching the Marauders' 9 yard line. A Jordan Walters field goal attempt was swatted away byÂ
Drew Seaburg, preserving a two-score lead for the Marauders and the eventual shutout.
NO FLAGS
• Millersville has accumulated fewer penalties than any team in the PSAC, committing just 19 for a total of 165 yards, an average of 41.3 per game.Â
BRING BACK THE SACK
• Millersville did not record a sack in the first three games, but against West Chester, the Marauders tallied four, including two from
Zac Button.
Tykeem Dixon's sack was the first of his career, as was Button's two sacks.
Tommy Halloway registered his first of the season after leading the team in the category in 2017. It was his first sack in a seven-game stretch.Â
ZAC ATTACK
•Â
Zac Button played in 21 games at Lock Haven before transferring to Millersville, and in his four games as a Marauder, he has recorded his first career interception (at IUP) and his first career sack (at West Chester). Button has a tackle for loss in three of four games and ranks 12th in the PSACÂ with 5 1/2 TFL. Button also recorded a career-high nine tackles in the opener against Pace.Â
CATCHING ONÂ
• Redshirt freshman
Chris Dolan continued to be the Marauders' top target in week four, leading the team with five catches and a touchdown. In weeks two and three, he totaled 19 receptions against top PSAC West competition (Slippery Rock and IUP). At IUP, Dolan made 10 catches for 137, becoming the first Millersville freshman since 2014 with 100 yards receiving. Both marks were career highs, and his yardage total was the most by a Marauder since
Kevin Wiggins totaled 144 yards on Oct. 8, 2016. Dolan also made his first career touchdown catch. Against The Rock, Dolan totaled nine catches for 97 yards, giving him the highest back-to-back reception total by a Marauder since Andy Neupauer's 21 catches against Bloomsburg (9) and Slippery Rock (12) in weeks six and seven of 2003.Â
• Dolan ranks third in the PSAC with 26 catches, averaging 6.5 per game.Â
ACTIVE UP FRONTÂ
• Defensive tackle
Lucas Bush is a first-year starter but he has been in the thick of the action, averaging 7.8 tackles per game, which ranks 12th in the PSAC. He has more tackles than any other defensive lineman in the league and only one other player--Alec Heldreth of Clarion--ranks in the top 20.Â
• Bush made a career-high 12 stops and a half-tackle for loss against Slippery Rock. In 2017, Bush totaled seven tackles in five games played.Â
TWO SPORTS, NO PROBLEM
•
Evan Morrill continues to make an impact on the football field, starting every game at wide receiver and serving as the team's long snapper. Morrill has caught a pass in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season, and his four against IUP and West Chester were the second-most of his career. Â
• Morrill is also the starting 184-pounder for the Millersville wrestling team. Morrill went 13-13 with an 8-5 dual meet record in 2017-18. He won two matches at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships as well.Â
SAFETY STOPPER
•
Trejon Dinkins totaled double-digit tackles in each of the first three games, ranking him second in the league and tied for 22nd nationally in tackles per game. His 12 in week one against Pace were the most by any player in the PSAC that week, and he matched that total in week two. He added 10 tackles in week three.Â
CAPTAINS
• Millersville's players voted seniors
Brett Harris and
Trejon Dinkins and junior
Tommy Halloway as the team's captains for 2018. Dinkins in his second season with the Marauders. Harris is the team's second-most experienced offensive player with 25 starts. Halloway is just the 11th junior since 1956 to earn a captaincy.
ALL-STAR DEFENDERS
• For the first time since 2007, Millersville had an underclassman named All-PSAC East. Both defensive end
Tommy Halloway and linebacker
Cameron Boykin earned that distinction in 2017. Halloway gives Millersville a returning All-PSAC East defensive end for the first time since 2008. In 2017, Halloway totaled six sacks--a total that matched the most by a Marauder since 2001. Boykin ranked second on the team in tackles with 72.
GOING FOR 44
•
Morgan Faughnan has been the model of consistency for the Marauders. He has started 36 consecutive games--every game the Marauders have played over the last three-plus years. Faughnan entered the season No. 2 in the PSAC in consecutive starts, trailing only Alec Petrillo of Shippensburg, who started the season with 34. Only three players in the entire league had consecutive start streaks of 30 games or more. In 2017, he set career highs with 48 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and 4 1/2 tackles for loss. He has made 11 tackles through three games in 2018.Â
TWO-WAY PLAYER
•
Joey Farley's PSAC-best streak of six consecutive field goals made came to an end when his attempt at IUP was blocked, but he bounced back against Slippery Rock by hitting a 21-yard field goal. He is also a perfect 37 for 37 in PAT attempts in his career. Farley, however, is not just a kicker. Farley led the team with six catches and 62 yards receiving in week one. In week three against Slippery Rock, he made the longest catch of his career (43 yards) and scored his first career touchdown.Â
• Farley was named PSAC East Special Teams Athlete of the Week once in 2017.Â
NEW LEADERSHIP
• Millersville's staff is almost entirely brand new.
J.C. Morgan was named Millersville's head coach on April 30. Morgan hired eight new assistant coaches, with only Millersville alum and defensive coordinator
Matt Sutjak returning from last year's staff. Morgan is the 22nd head coach in the 123-year history of Millersville football. Of that long list, only John Pucillo (1925-29, 33-36), George Katchmer (1954-69) and Dr. Gene Carpenter (1970-2000) coached for more than five seasons. The last time a Millersville first-year head coach posted a winning record in his first season was John Pucillo in 1933, going 4-2.
• Unlike Millersville's previous three head coaches, Morgan is coming to Millersville from another Division II program, and a PSAC program at that. Morgan started at Shippensburg in 2005 and spent the last three as offensive coordinator. Morgan's staff is loaded with PSAC experience. Both coordinators--Sutjak and
Jeff Tomasetti--played and coached in the league. Special teams coordinator
Dan Beard and tight ends coach
Ron Kerr also coached at Shippensburg.
Tim Tobin was the defensive line coach for a PSAC Championship at Kutztown. Running backs coach
Chris Palubinsky was the starting quarterback at Bloomsburg just last season.
