Marauders dominate hammer, Greene wins at PSAC Outdoor Championships

Slippery Rock, Pa. - What a start to the PSAC Outdoor Championships it was for the Millersville women's track and field team. Sunflower Greene set a PSAC Championships record and won the hammer throw for the second consecutive year, leading a pack of four Marauders in the top five. Arianna Camel and Madie Tropp also raced into contention in the heptathlon.
Millersville athletes finished 1-2-4-5 in the hammer throw. Behind Greene's first-place finish was senior Amanda Myers in second, Stephanie Garner in fourth and Madison Martin in fifth. The Marauders piled up 27 points in the hammer throw alone.
Greene's meet record throw went 193-4, outdistancing her teammate and runner-up Myers whose best landed at 167-2. Greene's win was her fifth at a PSAC Championship event and her second consecutive hammer throw championship. Myers notched her first All-PSAC finish in the event, improving upon her fourth-place finish from 2017.
Garner's 159-8 was a career-best and a more than a 23-foot improvement from her 17th-place toss in 2017. It marked her first time scoring points at the PSAC Championships. Martin's fifth-place finish came with a toss of 159-5. It was Martin's first time scoring points in the hammer at the outdoor championships. She placed ninth as a freshman.
In the heptathlon, Camel won two of the four events held on Thursday. Her 2,756 points put her in second place, just six points behind West Chester's Caroline Lewis. Camel picked up 897 points by running a career-best time of 14.59 for first place in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 200-meter dash, Camel scored 815 points with a first-place time of 25.80. She won the race by 1.3 seconds. Camel also finished fifth in the shot put and tied for sixth in the high jump.
Tropp closed the first four events in ninth place--just 12 points out of the scoring. Tropp ran a career-best 15.14 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth. She ran to a ninth-place finish in the 200 and tied for sixth in the high jump. Fellow Marauder Arielle Stigelman closed the day in 13th place.
