Charlotte, N.C - Sunflower Greene and Amanda Myers are no stranger to the national stage, and the Marauder duo returns to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 24. Greene will compete in the hammer throw on Thursday at 3 p.m., and will then compete in the shot put Saturday at 11:15 a.m. Myers, making her fourth consecutive trip to nationals in the javelin, will compete Saturday at 1:15 p.m. All of the events will be held at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith.
GREENE'S 2018 OUTDOOR SEASON
• After winning PSAC indoor championships in the shot put and weight throw, Greene became Millersville's first female track and field athlete to win a national championship, taking first at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put. Greene's follow-up performance in the outdoor season has not disappointed. Greene won PSAC titles in the shot put and hammer throw (and finished second in the discus), was named the PSAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the meet for the second consecutive year, and was named the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year for the second time this year (including the indoor season). Greene was also a four-time PSAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week in 2018.
• Greene's season-best mark in the shot put, which was also an all-time PSAC record, was set on April 26 at the Penn Relays at 52-3 3/4. Greene was the lone Division II athlete in the championship field and placed fourth. Greene qualified for the championships in fourth place. Michaela Dendinger of Wayne State (Neb.) owns the nation's top mark at 54-3 3/4. When Greene won the indoor national title, she came in seeded third.
• Greene won the shot put in five of the six meets in which she competed, finishing as the runner-up at the Bucknell event. Greene's best at the Penn Relays is the only time she has topped 50 feet this season.
• Greene is one of only three PSAC athletes set to compete in the shot put and is the only one who will compete in the hammer throw. Greene is one of just six athletes who will compete in both events.
• Green qualified in seventh position in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 193-11, which was set at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14. That stands as an all-time PSAC record. The mark was more than two feet better than her 191-2 set at the 2017 PSAC Championships.
MYERS' 2018 OUTDOOR SEASON
• Myers heads into the NCAA Championships ranked seventh in the javelin with a season-best of 155-8. Myers saved her best for the PSAC Outdoor Championships where she finished runner-up--her best-ever finish at the championships. Madison Wolf of Fort Hays State owns the nation's best mark at 167-3 1/4.
• Myers' season-best was 3-8 longer than her NCAA Championships toss in 2017 but 2-2 shy of her own school record. Myers finished first or second in five of her six events.
• Myers also narrowly missed the cutoff in the hammer throw. She was the PSAC runner-up in the event and her 176-11 ranked 29th nationally. Only the top 20 qualified for nationals.
GREENE'S CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
• Greene is making her second consecutive trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships and including the indoor season, it is her fourth NCAA Championships appearance.
• Greene placed fourth (50-6) in the shot put at least season's outdoor championships for All-America honors and placed 20th (157-8) in the hammer throw. Millersville has never before produced an All-American in two events at the same outdoor championships. Greene is also looking to join Priscilla Jennings (2008-09) and Amy Seier (1993-94) as the only back-to-back All-Americans in the history of Millersville's outdoor program.
• Including the indoor season, Greene is already a three-time All-American in the shot put but is looking for her first in a second event.
MYERS' CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
• Myers is the only Marauder in history to be a four-time national qualifier in the same event. Myers has improved her finish each season. After taking 13th as a freshman (142-3), Myers broke the school record at 157-10 and placed 10th as a sophomore, earning All-America second team recognition. As a junior, Myers hit 152-0, placing her sixth. Myers is the only four-time national qualifier in this year's field.
