Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Christian Adorno went 5 for 5 with two homers and two doubles, and his ninth-inning, game-tying blast helped Wilmington rally for a 6-5 victory over Millersville Tuesday at Cooper Park.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Millersville received back-to-back singles from
Eric Callahan and
Ted Williams. Callahan's knock scored
Dominic Hardaway, but
Manning Brookens was thrown out at the plate, keeping the score tied. Callahan stole second, and scored on Williams line drive to left to give Millersville a 5-4 lead headed to the ninth.
Millersville could not hold the lead, however. Adorno, who had already recorded four hits and scored three runs, hit a one-out home run to tie the game. Max Carney singled, Kendall Small walked, and Frank Nigro was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Nick Macey hit a ground ball to Williams at second. Millersville got the out at second but Macey reached first without a throw and the go-ahead run crossed.
Ben Snyder singled and stole second base in the bottom of the ninth, but Justin Mears closed the inning for his ninth save of the season.
In addition to his five hits, Adorno scored four times, drove in three runs and stole a base. He had a hand in all but one Wilmington run. Wilmington used six pitchers. Millersville used seven.
Andrew Mayhew gave up two runs on five hits and two walks in three innings as the starter.
Bobby Dorta, who started as the DH, pitched two shutout innings.
Dorta also gave Millersville a temporary 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run, two-out single.
Millersville enters its final weekend of the regular season tied for first place in the PSAC East with Bloomsburg and West Chester. Bloomsburg comes to The Coop on Friday with a first pitch set for 1 p.m.
