GAME OVERVIEW
• With four games remaining in the regular season, Millersville faces the daunting task of playing three of those games on the road. The Marauders' first trip away from Pucillo Gymnasium is at Bloomsburg where they will face off against a resurgent Huskies team who want to avenge their loss to the Marauders a month ago.Â
• The Marauders shot the lights out of Pucillo Gymnasium last month against Bloomsburg as the team shot 50 percent from the field and from the three point arch. Millersville shot efficiently because the team passed its way into the best possible shot on almost every possession and recorded an assist on 18 of the 27 made field goals. Millersville's aggression on the defensive end paid off as they built their lead in the third quarter with five steals and eight forced Bloomsburg turnovers. Millersville finished the game with 10 steals and forced Bloomsburg into 18 total turnovers, and the team capitalized with 15 points off those turnovers.
• While Millersville created a blueprint for beating Bloomsburg's fifth best defense in the PSAC, the Marauders need to be ready for a gritty basketball game if the outside shot does not fall like last time. With the team averaging only 27 percent from the three point line on the season, it is more likely that the team will need to work in the paint. Over their last three games, the Marauders are averaging 37.3 points in the paint per game which is nine points better than the 28 they scored against Bloomsburg.Â
• Millersville will look to a trio of crafty guards on hot streaks to cut their way through a Bloomsburg roster that features nine players at 5-11 or taller. Only two Marauders have scored 30 or more points since February of 2014 and they did it in back-to-back games. Senior
Alayah Hall is coming off a career-night as she scored 33 points against Shippensburg. Hall showed off her signature body control as she contorted her way through the Shippensburg defense and laid the ball off the glass and into the basket. The game before Hall exploded for the most points by a Marauder in the Statcrew Era (2002-present), freshman
Lauren Lister messed around and scored a career-high 30 points at Cheyney on 11-14 shooting.Â
• Redshirt junior
Janelle Robinson is coming off two straight double double performances as she scored 14 points and snagged 14 rebounds at Cheyney before scoring 14 more points and snagging 13 rebounds against Shippensburg. Robinson has been especially clutch from the free throw line as she converted four of her five made free throws at Cheyney in over time as well as shooting a perfect 8-8 against Shippensburg.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• The Huskies are surging after a rough seven game losing streak in the month of January that included a 77-65 loss at Millersville. Winners of three straight, Bloomsburg is making its playoff push as it overtook Mansfield for the fifth position in the PSAC East standings. During their win streak against Kutztown, Lock Haven, and Cheyney, Bloomsburg won by an average of nine points per game.
• While their record has fluctuated, the Huskies' style of play has not changed since Bloomsburg and Millersville last faced off. The Huskies thrive on low scoring games and must grind their opponents down to earn a victory. Currently, Bloomsburg ranks last in the PSAC in scoring as the team averages 58.4 points per game. The Huskies scored 68 points once in the last month while Millersville currently averages 68.1 points per game. Helping Bloomsburg's efforts, as they host Millersville, is the Huskies' defense which ranks fifth in the conference as the Huskies holds opponents to 63.4 points per game. When it comes to a match with Bloomsburg, the question is whether the unstoppable force or the immovable object wins.
• Reigning PSAC East Co-Athlete of the Week Taylor Montana is coming off a performance last week that saw her earn two straight doubles doubles as she averaged 14.5 points per game and 12 rebounds per game against Kutztown and Lock Haven. Montana currently leads the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds per game.
•The team's second leading scorer, Alyssa Mack, is on a hot streak as she led her team in scoring during the three game winning streak. She scored 21, 16, and 22 in those contests.
