Greene, Holloman, Flowers open season with event wins

Lancaster, Pa. - Millersville University senior Sunflower Greene picked up right where she left off. The reigning 2018 NCAA Division II indoor shot put champ opened her 2018-19 season by winning both the shot put and weight throw at Saturday's Diplomat Invitational, and hitting NCAA qualifying marks in both events.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Greene helped an abbreviated Millersville squad win four events at the invitational. Destinee Holloman won the 60-meter dash (7.94) and Lenaiya Flowers won the 200-meter dash.
• In the weight throw, Greene broke her own school and PSAC record with a NCAA "B" qualifying mark of 63-7. She won the event by more than 10 feet. Teammate Madison Martin launched a PR of 52-11 3/4, which was also a PSAC Championships qualifying mark. Aliyah Striver placed third with a PR and PSAC qualifying mark of 49-0 1/4. Stephanie Garner also qualified for PSAC's and placed sixth with a toss of 46-4.
• Greene's shot put mark of 52-5 1/4 was an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, and she won the event by more than seven feet. Striver placed third with an indoor PR and PSAC qualifying distance of 43-10 1/2. Reunisha Williams (38-11 3/4) and Martin (38-9 3/4) finished fifth and sixth respectively--both hitting PSAC qualifying marks.
• Five Marauders finished in the top 10 in the 60. A total of 79 runners competed in the event. Holloman's 7.94 and Emonie Reviere's 7.95 were both PSAC qualifying times. Freshman Gabriela Karch (8.11) finished fourth in her first collegiate competition.
• Flowers ran a PR and PSAC qualifying time of 26.31 in the 200. Karch placed second with a time of 26.49, which also puts her in the PSAC Championships.
• Brianna Doherty placed fourth in the long jump with a PSAC qualifying jump of 17-3 1/2. Holloman took fifth.
NOTES
• A total of 23 Marauders competed in the event.
• Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Greene has improved her weight throw from 54-8 1/4 to 63-7. Her shot put mark in the 2017-18 season opener was 49-1 1/2 compared to Saturday's 52-5 1/4.
