McEvoy Campbell played in 31 international games for the national outdoor team. She continues a long, successful run with the national indoor team, playing in 23 international events, most recently winning a gold medal at the Pan American Championships. McEvoy Campbell arrived in Lancaster County in 2013 and even while playing on two national teams, she immersed herself in the coaching scene. She served as head coach of the U16 team for Spooky Nook Field Hockey Academy and was promoted to technical director of the academy in 2016. In that position she coached and developed players who went on to play at the collegiate and international levels. In 2017, she served as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Hershey High School, helping the varsity program to a state semifinal appearance, a Mid-Penn Championship and a 20-6 record. As the JV coach, she turned a team with a losing record the previous season into a team with a 15-2 record.
She now joins a Millersville program that has reached the NCAA Division II Tournament five consecutive seasons, winning a national title in 2014 and PSAC Championships in 2013 and 2016.
"Ali is the right person and coach for our players and program at this time," said head coach Shelly Behrens. "Adding her to our staff is a win-win on so many levels. She is incredibly accomplished as a player at every level. Her passion, determination, and commitment to everything she does is a direct reflection of her and who she aspires to be. We are looking forward to her sharing her experience with our players and elevating and complementing our program."
McEvoy Campbell has spent her entire field hockey career in the nation's field hockey hotbed. After graduating from Boyertown High School, she went on to play for NCAA powerhouse Maryland where she was the 2013 ACC and WomensFieldhockey.com Defensive Player of the Year, a member of the 2010 NFHCA All-Rookie Team and a first team All-America pick in 2011 and 2013. She won two NCAA Championships at Maryland and was teammates on the 2010 team with former Millersville assistant coach Katie O'Donnell.
"Ali's innate passion for hockey is contagious," said Maryland head coach Missy Meharg. "Shelly and the women at Millersville know good hockey and will soar with Ali's technical skill expertise. It's a perfect fit."
McEvoy Campbell was just 14 when she started playing with the national indoor team and went on to win gold, silver and bronze medals at the Pan American Championships. In 2017, she was the tournament's top goal scorer, named top player in the tournament and an Indoor Elite Team selection. She holds the distinction of the youngest player to ever compete on the indoor team and was the first player to represent the USA on two national field hockey teams simultaneously.
As a member of the national teams, McEvoy Campbell was also instrumental in promoting games and fundraisers through social media.
McEvoy Campbell earned a bachelor's degree in family sciences from Maryland in 2013.
