ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
• Millersville enters the final series of the regular season ranked No. 17 in Division II, third in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings and tied for third in the PSAC East standings. The Marauders hold a 2 1/2 game lead over East Stroudsburg, and any combination of two Millersville victories or two East Stroudsburg losses would clinch a PSAC Tournament berth for the Marauders--the eighth in the last 10 years and seventh in a row.
• Shippensburg has already clinched a berth in the PSAC Tournament but is playing for seeding, and the Raiders are also on the NCAA Tournament bubble, having been ranked No. 7 in the most recent release. There are five at-large selections and two automatic bids (PSAC and Mountain East Tournament winners), putting Shippensburg on the edge of field. Millersville, ranked third in the regional rankings, are third in the region in winning percentage.
• Millersville has won 13 of the last 15 games and six in a row. Since being held to one run in both games of the road Lock Haven doubleheader the Marauders have totaled 57 runs in six games, outscoring opponents by 37 runs.
• There may be no player in the league as red-hot at the plate as is
Chas McCormick. The reigining PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, McCormick has an eight-game hitting streak and has totaled 15 hits and 11 runs scored in his last eight games. At Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday, McCormick became just the second player in PSAC history to reach 300 career hits. McCormick has upped his average to .408, which ranks seventh in the PSAC. He leads the league in hits and ranks seventh in runs, seventh in RBIs, tied for third in home runs and fifth in stolen bases. He and East Stroudsburg's Ian Allen are the only players in the league to have at least eight homers, 20 steals and 40 RBIs.
•
Mitch Stoltzfus is also on a tear. He is riding a six-game hitting streak and has at least one hit in 10 of his last 12 games. In that 12 game stretch, he totaled six multi-hit performances.
• With 35 walks drawn,
Ted Williams in the PSAC leader. Williams set the single-season school record in 2016 with 46, and he already ranks fourth in Millersville history with 86 career walks.
• Holding opponents to a .242 batting average, Millersville's pitching staff ranks second in the PSAC in batting average against. The Marauders also rank third with 319 strikeouts, but the 160 walks are already 26 more than the team posted in 60 games last season.
Eli Nabholz ranks 24th in Division II in strikeouts per nine innings. Nabholz has pitched back-to-back complete games and has allowed more than two runs in just one of his 11 starts.
SERIES HISTORY
• Millersville has won three of the last four series and split one with the Raiders in 2015. The Marauders have taken three of four games or swept the Raiders in five of the last seven years. Last season, Shippensburg's win came by a 2-1 score in extra innings at Shippensburg. Since 2013, Millersville is 7-1 at home against the Raiders. With a 21-15 record,
Jon Shehan is the only Millersville coach to own a winning record over Shippensburg.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
• Shippensburg started the season 3-9 but has recovered to move into second place in the PSAC East with a 16-8 league record. Shippensburg has won six consecutive PSAC East games, but lost 14-12 in extra innings to Seton Hill on Tuesday.
• The Raiders boast a slugging lineup that ranks sixth in the league in average at .318 and second in home runs with 47. Jake Kennedy recently set the program's single season home run record, and he ranks sixth in Division II in homers per game. He hit his 19th against Seton Hill. Kennedy also leads the league in slugging percentage (.760) and RBIs (61). Eight of Shippensburg's nine regulars boast batting averages over .300.
• Gabe Mosser is the team's ace with a 2.90 ERA and four complete games over 10 starts and 59 innings. He has struck out 74 and ranks 23rd nationally in strikeouts per nine innings. Grant Hoover is a two-way player, hitting .323 and owning a 4-1 record with a 3.00 ERA in six starts. He has won four consecutive starts, and in his last two outings, he has allowed two runs and one walk over 13 combined innings.
