Bradenton, Fla. - Millersville University's Sunflower Greene broke her own PSAC record and placed fourth in the shot put, and Amanda Myers took sixth place in the javelin to give the Marauders two All-America finishes Saturday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
For the first time ever Millersville produced two All-America throwers at the same championships, and Myers became the Marauders' first two-time outdoor All-American thrower since Amy Seier (1992, 1994).
Greene's first throw of 49-2 1/2 momentarily reset the all-time PSAC record, but she bested that mark on her third throw, hitting 50-6. Greene was in third place heading into the finals. Wayne State's Michaela Dendinger hit 54-9 1/4 on her first heave, and that distance stood throughout the event to give her the national championship. Mel Herl of Chadron State landed 53-0 on her second attempted, and Winona State's Katie Taylor passed Greene for third on her final attempt at 51-1 3/4.
Myers' sixth-place finish was a career best in her third nationals appearance. She placed 13th as a sophomore and 10th as a junior. On Saturday, Myers' best toss of 152-0 came on her second attempt. That put her in sixth place and despite fouls on three of her final four throws she stayed in sixth. Bethany Drake of Western Washington took first at 169-11.
Myers is one of four two-time outdoor All-Americans in Millersville history. Greene capped her sophomore season with two All-America finishes in the shot put, taking seventh in the indoor season and fourth Saturday.
