Wrestling takes two losses against nationally ranked Mercyhurst and Gannon

Erie, Pa. – The Millersville wrestling team was defeated by No. 13 Mercyhurst 21-16 and 32-11 against No. 7 Gannon in the Mercyhurst Duals Saturday afternoon. The Marauders move to 2-3 in the season.
Redshirt junior Shane Ruhnke won both of his matches, picking up a pin and a decision. Ruhnke picked up a pin with 15 second left in the third period against Gavin Wilkerson of Mercyhurst. Ruhnke claimed his Gannon bout in a 17-10 decision.
Ruhnke goes to 4-1 on the season.
MERCYHURST 22, MILLERSVILLE 16
At 157 pounds, senior Seth Decker scored Millersville's first win against Mercyhurst, defeating Scott Dietrich, 9-3. In the second period, Decker took down Dietrich two times to build a 5-1 advantage.
Redshirt junior Kyle Narber secured his first victory of the season at 174 pounds, winning by a 10-6 decision over Trevor Johnson. Narber took down Johnson to earn a 3-1 lead into the final period. A back-and-forth period had the score at 7-6 before Narber hit a takedown late and added a riding time point.
At 184 pounds, Evan Morrill scored a 14-4 major decision. Morrill started with a takedown, scored a pair of nearfall points and built a 4-1 lead after the first period. He took a 7-1 lead into the third and added three more takedowns for the major decision.
GANNON 32, MILLERSVILLE 11
The Golden Knights took an 18-3 lead after five bouts.
Senior Alex Baider secured his sixth win of the season in an 11-2 decision victory over Austin Hertel.
Ruhnke shortened the lead to 18-6 at 165 pounds with a high-scoring 17-10 decision. In the 197-pound weight class, junior Colton Dull secured a technical fall over Gunner Loughman of Gannon, 15-0. Dull grabbed his fifth victory and fourth technical fall of the season.
The Marauders move on to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Saturday, Dec. 9. Millersville will travel to Edinboro to compete in the tournament.
