30 steals leads Millersville to lopsided victory
11/28/2017 8:52:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Millersville, Pa. - Millersville's full court, trapping defense set a frantic pace, and the Marauders generated 30 steals while junior Mark Perry scored a career-high 32 points in Millersville's one-sided 114-68 win over Penn State Berks Tuesday evening.
The 46-point margin of victory was the widest by a Millersville team since the 2006 team beat Penn State Harrisburg by 68. The 114 points were the most by a Millersville team since the very same game (116-48). The Marauders' 30 steals were the most on record for the program (dating to 1998), and were the most by any NCAA Division II team since 2014.
In addition to connecting on 14 of 16 shots, Perry tallied seven steals, coming within one of Charlie Parker's school record. Jamal Washington added six steals, Andre Watkins totaled five and Jordan Greene and Marcus Adkison recorded four apiece. Adkison scored 15 points while playing just 17 minutes.
Penn State Berks' 35 turnovers led to 49 Millersville points, and 34 of those points came in transition as Millersville turned defense into offense.
With 3:10 left in the first half, Millersville led 49-30. That lead ballooned to 46 midway through the second period as Millersville out-scored Penn State Berks 40-12 over that 13-minute span. Millersville's largest lead was 53, which came on a Perry layup with 1:15 left.
The win for Millersville snapped a five-game skid in which it held double-digit leads in four of the games and lost three by three points or fewer. It was also just the second home game of the season for Millersville. Tuesday's game marked the start of a seven-game homestand for the Marauders.
