California, Pa. – The Millersville University women's swimming team competed against Fairmont State, host California and Shippensburg at the California Invitational Friday through Saturday.
Millersville secured a 131-103 win over Fairmont State. The Marauders could not overtake the other teams in the meet. California won 139-99 and 100-85 while Shippensburg eared a 136-108 win.
Three swimmers qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships from their performances this weekend. Senior
Emily Fusco qualified in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. Freshman
Leah Barrett set qualifying times in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore
Mallory Dyson qualified for PSACs in the 50-yard freestyle.
Fusco won the 100-yard backstroke in the first day of competition with a time of 1:00.01. Fusco qualified for the PSAC Championships by a margin of two seconds. Barrett received her first win in her career in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25:48. Barrett toughed the wall at 55:51 in the 100-yard freestyle for her second victory of the event.
Shippensburg's Stephanie O'Toole broke the pool record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.94, a minute apart from the previous record.
In the 200-yard backstroke on the first day of competition, Fusco recorded her second victory with a time of 2:12.29. Junior
Mariana Bernal was a second off from qualifying for PSACs in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.60) for her to place in fifth in that meet.
SATURDAY'S COMPETITION
Millersville won the 200-yard medley relay against California with a time of 1:54.24. Sophomore
Jessica Berry qualified for PSAC Championships with her performance in the 1,650 freestyle, tapping the wall at 19:36.18 (two seconds away from the PSAC time).
Dyson hit the PSAC qualifying time in her win in the 50 free in the California dual. Dyson recorded a time of 25.42. Barrett qualified in the same meet, .29 away from her teammate (25.71).
In the 100-yard freestyle, Barrett secured her third triumph of the invitational with a time of 56.55. Fusco earned a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Fusco swam a 59.73 Bernal finished four-hundreths past the PSAC qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.80).
The Marauders return home for a head-to-head meet against Lock Haven on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
