Millersville, Pennsylvania -Â A 20-4 run in the third quarter lifted Millersville to a 56-53 victory over East Stroudsburg Friday.
Jade Farquhar had a career-high 17 points while
Celeste Robinson had 15 points and
Alayah Hall chipped in 11 in the Marauder victory.
Aunjel Van Brakle and
Courtney Hinnant each totaled seven rebounds despite battling foul trouble throughout the course of the game.Â
The Warriors jumped out to a 10-2 lead courtesy of back-to-back three pointers by Madison Tamburini and Noelle Powell.
Alayah Hall would put a layup in and Millersville stole the ensuing inbounds pass as
Celeste Robinson scored to make the score 10-6. When Millersville cut the score to two points, Imani Brown scored to make it 14-8 Warriors. The two teams would trade buckets as East Stroudsburg took a 15-12 lead into the second quarter.
The Warriors began the second quarter with buckets from Brown and Rutkowski to take a seven point lead, but Millersville would go on a 7-0 run capped by a
Krista Mellinger three to tie the score at 19. The Marauders went cold as East Stroudsburg would regain the lead and go into halftime with a 24-19 lead.
Millersville would come out firing in the third as Farquhar hit a three to cut the deficit to two points. After East Stroudsburg answered, Farquhar and Robinson hit layups before Van Brakle tied the game up at 28 minutes later. Noelle Powell would hit a three pointer before an
Alayah Hall bucket would spark the Millersville offense to a 15-0 run and Millersville would take a 43-31 lead. The Warriors cut into the lead, but the Marauders went into the fourth quarter ahead 44-35.
Sadie Creswell had a big fourth quarter for the Warriors, scoring 10 points and going 3-4 from three-point range. Creswell would hit back-to-back threes to maked the score 46-41 Millersville. The Marauders would jump out to another eight point lead but East Stroudsburg would not go away. and Creswell hit another three to make the score 54-53 with under two minutes to go.Â
After
Celeste Robinson hit a pair of free throws, the Marauders committed a turnover on the inbounds pass to give the ball to East Stroudsburg with seven seconds remaining. The Warriors inbounded the ball and Allison Howard missed a three but East Stroudsburg would get the favor of the possession arrow and have one more chance to tie. Imani Broan caught the ball and fired a three that was just off the right side of the rim and Millersville escaped victorious.
The Marauders are now 5-8 (3-5 PSAC) and will travel to Lock Haven Monday to face the Bald Eagles at 5:30 p.m.Â
