Millersville, Pennsylvania -Â Despite blowing an eight-point lead in the third, the Millersville women's basketball team topped Cheyney in overtime 80-71 Wednesday.
Alayah Hall had a career-high 29 points including going 10-11 from the free-throw line and
Celeste Robinson nearly had a triple double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists as the Marauders outlasted the Wolves.
Millersville shot over 40 percent for the third-straight game including a 48 percent second half while holding the Wolves to 38 percent from the field. Millersville outrebounded Cheyney 43-35 but committed 20 turnovers and only forced 14. Despite having less points in the paint and off the bench, the Marauders capitalized on the fastbreak and on Cheyney turnovers scoring 28 points to the Wolves' 19.Â
The Marauders held a 58-57 lead with 5:16 to play but Marlon Herring would hit a 3-pointer that sparked a 6-0 run and put the Wolves out in front by five.
Alayah Hall would drive and hit a runner in the lane before Van Brakle hit a 3-pointer to tie the game. After the Wolves took a three point lead,
Courtney Dimoff found a cutting Hall who made a layup and got fouled to go to the line and tie the game at 66 with under a minute to play.Â
Ceani Beaden would miss a shot and Hall collected the rebound to hold the ball for the last possession. Hall ran down the clock before driving and dishing to
Kendra Bamberger who put Millersville up by two with three seconds to paly. Cheyney would call a timeout and advance the ball as TaKayla Ellis hit a bucket from the corner just before time expired to force overtime.Â
With the score 72-71 in overtime,
Krista Mellinger came up with a steal and found Robinson who converted a left-handed layup to extend the lead. The next time down the court,
Aunjel Van Brakle would hit a three from the top of the key to ice the game for Millersville.
The Marauders are now 8-11 on the season (6-8 PSAC) and aim for their third-straight victory Saturday when they host Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. tip.Â
