Millersville, Pennsylvania -Â Four Marauders scored in double figures as the Millersville women's basketball team routed Kutztown 62-40 Saturday.
Aunjel Van Brakle registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while
Celeste Robinson added 13 points and four rebounds in the win.
Millersville shot over 40 percent for the second-straight game and were 80 percent from the free-throw line. The Marauders scored 24 points off turnovers and six points on the fast break while both sides pulled down 36 rebounds.Â
Robinson got things going a minute into the contest when she stole the ball and pulled up from the elbow to put the Marauders ahead. It wasn't until the six minute mark that Alex Heck got the Golden Bears on the board with a layup to even the score at 2-2. Â
Alayah Hall would register a steal and a score and
Courtney Hinnant made an up and under move to put the Marauders ahead 6-4.
Aunjel Van Brakle would drive and hit a layup to make the score 10-6 as the first quarter ended.
The Golden Bears would cut the deficit to two early in the second quarter and
Mary Fleig would call a timeout. Kutztown would tie the game at 12 when Sierra Taylor converted in the paint but Robinson would respond with an elbow jumper and Savannah Krusinsky would hit a 3-pointer to make the score 17-12 Millersville. Â After the Golden Bears hit a bucket, Robinson would once again drive the lane and answer on the other end. Minutes later, Robinson would find
Courtney Dimoff on the perimeter and Dimoff nailed her 22
nd three of the season to make the score 22-14 at the break.
Van Brakle kicked things off in the third with a tough bucket in the lane. Kutztown would mount a comeback after a pair of free throws and a Sierra Taylor 3-point play to make the score 24-19. With 6:18 to play, Robinson would foul Altomare shooting a three and the senior would cut the deficit to three points as the Marauders took a timeout. Dimoff would break the near-five minute scoring drought for Millersville as she nailed another 3-pointer. The next possession down Hinnant would rebound a missed shot and put it back in to make the score 29-23 Millersville.
After the media timeout, the Marauders would begin to pull away, jumping out to their biggest lead of the game after Robinson hit a pair of free throws to make the score 39-27. Van Brakle would hit a three with 1:24 to play in the third and cap off the quarter with another triple as Millersville took a 45-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Taylor would bring Kutztown back into the game, hitting a three and making the score 47-36 with 7:37 to play. When the Golden Bears attempted to go coast to coast, Van Brakle swatted Taylor Thames' shot into the bleachers with her second block of the game. On the other end, Hall would drive in the lane and convert a 3-point play after a foul and a free throw. The Marauders continued to pile on as Van Brakle scored to make it 52-37 and Millersville would cruise to victory.
The Marauders snap their three-game losing streak and improve their record to 7-11 -(5-8 PSAC) and remain home, hosting Cheyney Wednesday at 5;30 p.m.
