ABOUT THE GAMES• Millersville has taken a three-game lead in the PSAC East standings after taking three of four--including three in a row--from nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg last weekend. The Marauders tacked on an 11-1 non-conference win over Philadelphia Tuesday to improve to 27-3. The Marauders travel to Lock Haven on Friday before returning home for two at Cooper Park on Sunday. The Marauders are 11-0 at home this season and have won 18 in a row at home dating back to April 18 of 2015.
•
Mitch Stoltzfus totaled three hits against Philadephia, extending his hitting streak to 28 games--the second longest in PSAC history. He trails Slippery Rock's Adam Urbania by six for the all-time record. Stoltzfus upped his average .520. He entered the week ranked fourth in Division II in hitting.
• Overshadowed by Stoltzfus' exploits is
Tyler Orris, who has a 13-game hitting streak. During that run, Orris has seven multi-hit games and 20 RBIs. His 31 RBIs are just two shy from a career-high. Orris set the Millersville record for runs scored in last weekend's series and is now just 16 hits shy of Zach Stone's hits record (267) and nine steals short of Ernest McCoy's record of 97. Orris also recorded the 600th assist of his career against Philadelphia. He is now one of two players in PSAC history to total 300 assists.
•
David Summerfield has also been on a tear at the plate. Summerfield ranked second in Division II in hitting in 2015 with a .452 average but suffered a significant knee injury in the NCAA regional. Now, less than a year removed from that surgery, Summerfield is hitting .340. His averaged dipped down to .216 on March 11 but has since hit .478 (22-for-46) over the last 15 games.
•
Jim McDade walked the first batter he faced this season and has not walked another since--a streak of 38.1 innings. McDade now ranks second in Division II in strikeout to walk ratio (30:1) and second in walks per nine (0.23). McDade put together a streak of 46.1 consecutive innings without a walk in 2015. He has pitched 63.1 consecutive innings against PSAC East opponents without issuing a walk.
SERIES HISTORY• Lock Haven joined the PSAC East in 2014, and Millersville has won both season series by sweeps. The Marauders have won nine in a row in the series.
Jon Shehan owns an 11-1 career record against the Bald Eagles. All four of last season's games were closely contested. Three were decided by two runs or fewer. The opener went to extra innings with
Chas McCormick scoring the winning running on a Lock Haven error.
Kurt Seiders hit a game-tying with two outs in the seventh to send the game to extras.
•
Brandon Miller is 2-0 in two career starts against Lock Haven. He threw five shutout innings as a freshman in 2014 and struck out six while allowing two runs on eight hits in a complete game effort in 2015.
Jim McDade won his start last season. The rest of the starting staff will be making their first appearances against the Bald Eagles.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS• Lock Haven was 13-7 after a win at Shippensburg on March 26, but after losing in the nightcap of that doubleheader, Lock Haven has lost eight of nine in a week's time to drop to 14-15. It lost all four PSAC East games against Bloomsburg.
• Lock Haven's starting rotation is strong with all four pitchers (with at least five starts) holding an ERA of 4.50 or lower. Jacob Belinda, with a 3-3 record and 2.60 ERA, has struck out 47 in 27.2 innings. He struck out 11 and allowed three hits against Kutztown and fanned 10 while allowing two hits against Shippensburg. He ranks second in Division II in strikeouts per nine innings.
• The team is hitting .306 but has hit just 14 home runs, which second to last in the PSAC. The Bald Eagles don't do much on the base paths either, totaling just eight stolen bases on the season. Nick Stotler, Evan McFarland and Hunter Szaflarski all enter with batting averages over .340.
