Lacrosse Snaps Streak Against Bloomsburg

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team defeated Bloomsburg on Wednesday by a score of 14-13 snapping not only a two game skid, but also defeating the Huskies for the first time in 15 years. Sabrina Fusco led the attack for the Marauders as she scored five goals to go along with one assist. Renee Landis had three goals and two assists while Bridget Hufnagel netted two and handed out two assists. Bryana Weston-Wyatt recorded seven saves to help lift the Marauders to 5-3.
Millersville got on the board just 30 seconds into the game when Sabrina Fusco scored off a Renee Landis pass to put the Marauders up 1-0. Bloomsburg struck back scoring the next two goals before Abby Mack tied the game at 2. Millersville would score two more quick goals, totaling three goals 29 seconds of play to take a 4-2 lead. Jamie Damirgian scored to put Millersville up 5-2 before Bloomsburg would answer with two of their own. Later in the half when the Huskies cut the score Millersville lead to two, the Marauders responded ending the half with two goals and going into the break up 10-6.
Bloomsburg would draw first blood in the second half as Kate Shea put one in the back of the net. After Taylor Davis scored for Millersville, the Huskies scored back-to-back goals to make the score 11-9 in favor of the Marauders. Millersville would take a commanding 13-9 lead with 21 minutes to play, but the Huskies would hang around. With the score 14-11 in favor of Millersville, Bloomsburg would cut the deficit to just one when Tracy Rusen scored from a free position shot with just under 11 minutes to play.
With 1:31 left to play, Bloomsburg had possession but committed a turnover, but the Marauders would give it right back. After working the ball into the Marauders' end, Weston-Wyatt came up with a huge save to preserve the lead with 21 seconds to play. Millersville would not escape so easliy, though, commiting another turnover with 12 seconds to play. But the Marauder defense stood up as Brooke Davis picked up a ground ball with just one second remaining to seal the victory for Millersville.
Bloomsburg falls to 3-3 (1-2 PSAC) while the Marauders improve to 5-3 (2-2 PSAC). Millersville returns to action Saturday when they travel to Seton Hill for a 3 p.m. matchup with the Griffins.
