Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville will look to continue to build late season momentum when it welcomes Lock Haven to Pucillo Gymnasium on Saturday. The Marauders snapped its longest losing streak in program history with a 61-50 victory over Cheyney on Wednesday. For only the third time this season, the Marauders finished with a higher percentage from the field than their opponent shooting 34.4 percent from the floor. Millersville was led in scoring by
Tom Townsend who became a fan favorite after nailing several timely 3-pointers.
• Coach
Fred Thompson will be at the helm of Millersville's bench for the 500th time in his illustrious career. Thompson has proven to be one of the all-time great Millersville coaches, he ranks third in program history in career wins, and on Jan. 23, 2010, he became just the third coach in school history--and the second fastest--to 200 victories. Thompson's teams have made four appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, won three PSAC Eastern Division titles and captured two PSAC Tournament championships.
• The Marauders are 16th in the PSAC in scoring, averaging 65.2 points per contest; Millersville has only reached 70 points just five times in 20 games this season including a season-high 79 against California (Pa.).
• Leading scorer
Shawn Williams averages 15.4 points per game, which ranks seventh best in the PSAC. Williams has scored in double figures a team leading 15 times this season and has done so 28 times during his career for the Black & Gold. The Roberts Vaux product has been known as a proficient 3-point shooter through his career and ranks 15th in the PSAC this season shooting at a 33 percent clip.
• Millersville should have the edge rebounding wise on Saturday with Lock Haven entering the game as the worst offensive rebounding team at 7.2 boards per game. This should be music to ears of forwards
Tommy Patterson and
Ricky Mosley. Patterson is on the heels of a career-night collecting 14 rebounds and Mosley averages almost five per game.
• After a 9-3 start, LHU now sits below .500 on the season with a 10-11 overall record. The Bald Eagles are 6-11 in PSAC play and currently sit in sixth in the PSAC East standings. LHU saw action only once last week and lost a tough one at Mansfield, 75-74. Bootsie Walker leads Lock Haven in scoring with 12.2 points per game. Lamin Fulton, who has played the last 10 games (5 starts) is averaging 10.5 and Brahieme Jackson is contributing 10.2. Jackson leads LHU in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game. On December 19, Lock Haven beat Millersville 86-70.
S
COUTING THE OPPONENT• Since taking over the program in March 2011, Mike Nestor was charged with rebuilding the Bald Eagle basketball program, and he's done just that leading LHU to back-to-back PSAC playoff appearances. However, Millersville knocked off Lock Haven in both post season tournaments including a 74-67 decision a season ago. LHU will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak. Last time out, Dave Garcia knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 11, but it wasn't enough as the Bald Eagles fell to Kutztown on the road. Both Julian Bond and Brahieme Jackson scored nine points apiece. Lock Haven's bench accounted for 47 of its 71 points on the night.
