Millersville, Pennsylvania - Playing without Celeste and
Janelle Robinson, both out with injuries, Millersville fell to Edinboro 63-49 Saturday.
Alayah Hall led the team with 15 points while
Aunjel Van Brakle added 10 points, but it wasn't enough as the Fighting Scots outpaced the Marauders.
Edinboro came flying out of the gates, jumping out to a 12-0 lead. Van Brakle finally got the Marauders on the board with a corner jump shot followed up by a
Kendra Bamberger layup. Millersville would cut the lead to five points after Van Brakle hit a pair of free throws, but Katie Fischer hit a pair from the line as the Fighting Scots took an 18-9 lead into the second quarter.
Edinboro would extend their lead to 12 points when Fischer drove the lane and sunk a layup to make the score 29-17. The two sides would trade buckets before Maggie Moore gave the Fighting Scots a 33-19 lead they would take into the break as the Marauders turned the ball over 15 times in the first half alone.
Despite handling the ball better, Edinboro extended their advantage to 18 when Jahntay Walton knifed through the lane and made the game 41-23. Edinboro kept their foot on thje gas pedal, jumping out to a 23 point lead before the Marauders started to cut into the deficit.Â
Trailing 50-33, Millersville cut the lead to 10 points with two minutes left in the forth quarter. Just when the Marauders looked primed to make a late comeback, Jahntay Walton drilled a three and killed the momentum for Millersville. Katie Fischer added a pair of free throws late to make the final 63-49.
The Marauders suffer their first loss of the year and fall to 2-1 (0-1) but have a quick turnaround, hosting Mercyhurst Sunday at 1 p.m.
