Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville has suffered back-to-back losses and looks to stop the recent skid against PSAC East rival Bloomsburg. The Huskies have won three in a row over the Marauders and seven of the last 10. The Huskies have also won four of five at Pucillo Gymnasium dating back to 2011. The game is key in the PSAC East standings as only two games separates Millersville from the No. 2 seed, which Bloomsburg currently holds.
• Wednesday's game features two of the top talents in the PSAC: Bloomsburg's Mia Hopkins and Millersville's
Celeste Robinson. Both players do it all for their clubs. Hopkins averages a double-double and also leads the team in assists. She ranks first in the PSAC in steals, second in scoring, fifth in rebounding, 12th in assists and 10th in blocks. Robinson also ranks in the top 20 in scoring, rebounding, steals and field goal percentage. Hopkins has led Bloomsburg is scoring in all but three games and has led in rebounding in all but two games. She has led the team in points, rebounds, assists and steals in four games. Similarly, Robinson has been the team's leading scorer seven times, leader in assists four times and steals leader six times.
• Millersville continues to lead the PSAC in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense, but the offense needs a spark. The Marauders have scored fewer than 60 points in five of the last seven games, going 2-3 in those games. Millersville is 6-1 when scoring more than 60 points this season. The Marauders rank 14th in the PSAC in scoring offense and 17th in 3-point shooting.
• Robinson is the only Marauder to score in double figures in each of the last two games and is on a run of five consecutive games in double figures. She's averaged 15.8 points on 54.8 percent shooting in that stretch. She's received little help, though. Only
Shelby Reimer is averaging more 7.5 points per game (10.4) in that same stretch. She's shooting 33.3 percent, though, and has scored a total of 12 points in the last two games.
Aunjel Van Brakle scored double-figures in five straight games from Nov. 22-Dec. 5 but has since averaged just 4.3 points on 32.4 percent shooting over the last six games.
•
Yasmin Cooper is averaging a career-high 9.1 rebounds per game and is on pace to average more than 8.0 rebounds per game for a third consecutive season. Her 704 career rebounds ranks her ninth in program history and her 7.7 average is seventh-best. Her 77 blocked shots also ranks 13th all-time.
• Millersville's offense may be able to get back on track against Bloomsburg, which ranks 16th in the 18-team league in scoring defense, allowing 69.9 points per game. The Marauders may also have an edge in the rebounding battle. Millersville averages 40.2 rebounds per game and especially strong on the offensive glass, averaging 14.2 per game. Bloomsburg ranks 15th in rebounds allowed.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Bloomsburg has established itself as one of the top programs in the PSAC East under Bill Cleary, winning at least 22 games in five consecutive seasons. Cleary owns a 160-60 record over seven-plus seasons and guided the program to back-to-back NCAA regional finals. The look of this season's team is very different, though. It is a young club with only one senior and six freshmen. Still, the Huskies are tied for second in the PSAC. They've done it with an offense that is second in the PSAC in field goal percentage. The Huskies are turnover prone, committing 18.4 per game and holding a negative turnover margin. The Huskies also rank 16th in the league in offensive rebounding, and 15th in rebounding offense and defense.
