GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville's offense is on a tear, recording 10-plus hits in six consecutive games and posting a 5-1 record in that stretch. Six Marauders are hitting over .400 in that stretch and the group is led by
David Summerfield's 12-for-19 (.632). The Marauders have out-hit their opponents 75-36 and have 18 extra base hits compared to the opponents' seven. Millersville ranks second in the PSAC in RBIs, hits and doubles, third in home runs and on base percentage and fourth in batting average. Summerfield's .418 average ranks fifth among players with at least 50 at bats.
•Â
Chas McCormick isn't far behind with a .414 average. McCormick ranks fourth in RBIs with 27. McCormick has reached base in 22 consecutive games and is on a nine-game hitting streak with three consecutive multi-hit games. He has 10 RBIs in the last six games.
Dan Neff and
Dan Stoltzfus are also in the midst of nine-game hitting streaks. During Stoltzfus' streak, he has four multi-hit games and at least one RBI (14 total) in nine consecutive games. Neff has had two hits five of the last seven games. He's also had two triples in the last four games and five steals in the last five games.
•Â
Jeremy Musser looks like he's finding his stroke after a slow start. His averaged dipped to .222 during the West Chester series and was held out of the starting lineup for five consecutive games. But in game three of the East Stroudsburg series, Musser had a pinch hit single. Including that hit, Musser is 8-for-14 with two homers, a double, triple, five runs and four RBIs in five games. His average has jumped to .294. His three homers is already one more than he hit in his last season of 2013.
•  Â
Chris Murphy is coming off of his sixth career PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week awards. He looks like the frontrunner for his third consecutive PSAC East Pitcher of the Year Award right now, ownng a 1.46 ERA and 5-0 record. He's already won the league's weekly award twice this season. His ERA and batting average against is best among PSAC East pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched and second overall. He's also tied for the league lead in innings pitched and is just one strikeout behind
Brandon Miller for the league lead. Murphy and Miller are also tied for the lead in wins. Murphy has not allowed more hits than innings pitched in any of his six starts, and the Marauders are 6-0 when he is on the hill.
•  The ball will likely go to
Dylan Boisclair in game two. The Marauders are hoping for a bounce back performance from the sophomore. After holding opponents to six hits, two walks and two runs over his first 14 innings, Boisclair has allowed seven runs on nine hits and seven walks in two starts against PSAC East competition. Millersville has lost each of the last two games he has started.
•  The bullpen is also looking for a spark. Millersville ranks fourth in the PSAC in batters walked with 79. Oddly, while Millersville's team ERA is 3.96, every other team ranked in the top seven in walks holds an ERA over 7.00. The Marauder staff's ERA and batting average against of .235 ranks second in the league. Murphy, Miller and McDade have combined to walk just 21 batters in 107.2 innings (one walk per 5.1 innings). The rest of the staff has walked 58 in 74.1 innings.
•   Millersville leads the all-time series with Lock Haven, 28-21. Millersville swept the series in 2014, outscoring Lock Haven 28-5 in the process. It was Lock Haven's first season in the PSAC East and the first meeting between the teams since 2009. Millersville has won eight of the last 10 meetings.
•   Lock Haven is in its first season under the direction of Jim Chester. Lock Haven went 5-23 in the PSAC East last season. Chester went 234-129-1 and won four PSUAC Championships at Penn State Greater Allegheny.
•   Lock Haven's pitching has a tough match-up in the red-hot Marauder lineup. The Bald Eagles own a team ERA of 7.16 and have struck out just 67 batters in 83.0 innings. Teams are hitting .325 against them. The top starter is Madison Neddo, who is 1-2 with a 4.41 ERA in three starts. The offense is led by Ryan Henritzy, who is hitting .439 with three doubles and a homer. Austin Botts' is hitting .290 but his on base percentage is .488 as he has drawn a team-leading 11 walks.
