Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• The postseason hopes for the Millersville women's basketball team took a serious blow in Saturday's 63-59 loss at Lock Haven. The Marauders trailed by double figures in the second half and rallied to take the lead with four minutes to play. But Lock Haven outscored Millersville 10-4 in the final minutes to sweep the season series for the first time since 1970-71 and ensure Millersville its first sub-.500 regular season since 1991.
Alayah Hall led Millersville with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. It was Hall's third double-figure scoring performance in the last five games.
Aunjel Van Brakle added 12 points. The Marauders now find themselves in seventh place in the East, a half-game behind the Bald Eagles.
• Shippensburg sophomore Lauren Gold hit a pair of free throws with 4.4 seconds remaining Saturday to lift the Raiders past rival Kutztown, 68-66, despite the Golden Bears shooting over 50 percent from the field (51.9 percent/27-of-52). All five starters scored in double figures for Ship including Gold (15), Colleen Young (12), Logan Snyder (12), Stephanie Knauer (12), and Morgan Griffith (11). Griffith also had a double double, her 11th of the season, with 10 rebounds on the day.
• Gold sets the tone for the Shippensburg offense and does so quite efficiently. The Elkins Park, Pa., native is first on the team, fourth in the PSAC and 56th in the country in assists per game with 4.3. She is also first in the conference and 22nd in the nation in free throw percentage with a clip of 87.7 percent while her 1.70 assist-to-turnover ratio is good for fifth in the league and 50th among Division II leaders.
• Griffith is first in the PSAC and 11th in the country in defensive rebounds per game with eight while her 11 double doubles are good for first in the conference and 26th in the nation. Griffith's 10.4 boards per contest slot her second in the league and 31st among Division II's best rebounders. Knauer is first in the PSAC (14th in the country) in field goal percentage (56.7 percent) and her four offensive rebounds per game rank second in the conference (43rd in the nation).
• After not scoring at least 10 points a single time in her first 15 games played, freshman
Alayah Hall has done just that three times in her last five games. Two of those times came in starts against East Stroudsburg (Jan. 31) and Mansfield (Feb. 4). In those three double-figure games, Hall has gone 14-for-24 (58.3 percent) from the floor while averaging 13.3 points, six rebounds and nearly 30 minutes played per game (29.6).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• Shippensburg has already locked up the three seed in the PSAC's postseason tournament but still has three games to play against the likes of Millersville (Feb. 18), Lock Haven (Feb. 21) and Cheyney (Feb. 25). The Raiders are playing some of their best basketball of the season having won nine of their last 11 games since a 57-68 loss to Gannon back on Jan. 4 in Ship's Heiges Field House. That loss the Golden Knights brought Shippensburg back down to .500 overall at 7-7 and dropped the Raiders' PSAC record to just 3-5. Ship then won nine of its next 11 as stated above. The team's leading scorer is Stephanie Knauer who averages 13.8 points per game. Prior to the Gannon affair, she had been held to below 10 points three times in four games. However, that fourth game came against Slippery Rock on Dec. 17 and Knauer tied a career high with 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
