GAME OVERVIEW• Getting into the win column won't be easy against the 2015 Huskies, who thrive on defense and the running game. The Huskies have not allowed more than 20 points in their last four games and have held their last two opponents to a combined six points. They own the league's top-ranked defense in yards (285.8) and scoring (13.2). The passing defense, allowing just 171.8 yards per game, is also No. 1 in the PSAC. That's a tough match-up for a Marauder offense that has struggled to put points on the board. out of the 169 teams in Division II, Millersville ranks 163rd in passing, 163rd in scoring, 165th in total offense and 167th in sacks allowed. Bloomsburg also averages 239.2 yards per game on the ground while the Marauders are allowing 238.6. After allowing just 172 yards rushing in the first two games, Millersville last three opponents have rushed for 366, 255 and 400 and 15 touchdowns. A big reason why is that injuries have depleted the Marauders defensive front. Three players on the opening week two-deep--
Mike Fitzpatrick,
Ryan McIntyre and
Drew Seaburg--are all out for extended time.
ABOUT THE SERIES• Bloomsburg has won every meeting since 2000 and has scored 40 or more points 11 times in that stretch. Millersville has scored no more than 14 points in each of the last six meetings, and Bloomsburg is winning the games by an average score of 43.2-7.5. Millersville holds a 13-9 edge in games played at Biemesderfer Stadium but the last home win came in 1998 by a 30-0 score.
OVERTON DOES IT ALL• Freshman
Phil Overton caught two touchdown passes against Kutztown, bringing his total touchdowns to four on the season. It is the second year in a row that a Marauder freshman has scored at least four touchdowns. Overton has three TD catches and one TD run. He leads the team in scoring, rushing yards and kick return yards (19.5 average) and is third in receptions with 11.
YOUTH IN ACTION• Millersville's season-opening starting lineup featured 11 players making their first starts at a position, and 12 were freshmen or sophomores. Nine true or redshirt freshmen recorded statistics in the game. Through five games, 16 freshmen or sophomores have started at least one game.
SANELLI'S STREAK• A mainstay of the offensive line entering his fourth season is
Lenny Sanelli. The senior has started all 38 games since stepping onto campus in 2012, and his consecutive starts streak ranks second in the PSAC to only Bloomsburg quarterback Tim Kelly, who has logged 41 in a row.
PILING UP THE TACKLES• Safety
Rasheed Johnson has ranked in the top 20 in the PSAC in tackles in each of the last two seasons and currently ranks second in the PSAC with 53 tackles. He had a career-high 19 tackles in week two against Clarion and has recorded double-digit stops in three of five games this season and 10 times in his career. Johnson's 286 career tackles puts him just outside of the Millersville career top 10. He needs just 19 more to move into 10th place. He has the most tackles by a Marauder since Lee Rizzotto totaled 359 from 1996-99.
CREATING TURNOVERS• The Millersville defense is tied for third in the PSAC with seven interceptions and has generated 10 total turnovers. A big reason why has been
P.J. Santos. He leads the league in interceptions with three, picking off one in each of his first three games. Santos has recorded seven interceptions in his last 10 games dating back to 2014. He also recovered a fumble in the opener and forced a fumble against Clarion. Last season, Santos tied for seventh in the league with four interceptions, recovered two fumbles and also returned a fumble for a touchdown. His seven career interceptions place him in a tie for eighth in Millersville history. He missed the Slippery Rock game after being suspended by the PSAC for targeting against Clarion.
DUGAN'S DEFENSE• Since week nine of the 2014 season,
Sean Dugan has been on a roll at outside linebacker. He recorded a career-high 12 tackles last week against Kutztown. He also posted 2.0 tackles for loss, giving him at least one TFL in four of five games this season and seven of his last eight dating to 2014. Dugan owns 6.5 tackles for loss, ranking him tied for fifth in the PSAC, just 0.5 off of the pace. Over his last eight games, Dugan has 12.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks.
