Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville swimming team came just 16 points short of sinking the Golden Bears in its final dual meet of the season.
Grace Magerr,
Brigid Kavanaugh,
Emily Fusco, and
Janelle Laudermilch each swam to a first place finish against Kutztown on Saturday, but the Marauders dropped the dual meet 138-122.
The meet began with the tandem of
Emily Fusco,
Janelle Laudermilch,
Brigid Kavanaugh, and
Jaime Cessna squeaking out a narrow victory over their opponents from Kutztown in the 400-yard medley relay. Kavanaugh swam impressive times as the Marauders anchor, and the quartet finished with a recorded time of 4:11.58.
Grace Magerr in the midst of an impressive junior campaign swam her first PSAC provisional time in the 1000-yard freestyle. Magerr was able to secure the victory for the Marauders as she touched the wall at 10:53.31. In the 500-yard freestyle Magerr was able to coast to her second individual first-place finish of the afternoon when she edged teammate
Rachel Malampy by 15 seconds.
PSAC provisional times continued for Millersville, when Fusco swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.74, while also winning the event. The Cinnaminson, N.J., native also was able to win the 200-yard backstroke as she touched the wall with nearly a four second cushion over Madi Bleiler from Kutztown.
In the fifth event of the dual, Millersville's
Janelle Laudermilch was able to secure yet another victory as she finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.64. The mark qualified the junior for the PSAC Championships on Feb. 18-22.
The Marauders were able to conclude the dual on a high note as
Brigid Kavanaugh,
Grace Magerr,
Marina Barrineau, and
Rachel Malampy teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet finished with a recorded time of 3:50.11.
The Millersville swim team travels to East Stroudsburg next Saturday, Jan. 31 for the East Stroudsburg Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
