Marauders Play Long Ball in Sweep of Lock Haven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lock Haven, Pa. - Dan Johnson hit two home runs and Tyler McDonald hit one as the Millersville baseball team broke out the bats in a doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven Tuesday afternoon. The Marauders won game one 8-0 with a complete game from Logan Grant and took game two by an 8-4 score.

Johnson totaled four hits and four RBIs in the doubleheader. Tyler Orris totaled four hits and stole three bases. With 23 hits on Tuesday, Millersville (23-10, 10-4 PSAC East) completed the series sweep of Lock Haven (11-14, 3-9 PSAC East). Johnson now has 15 RBIs with a .457 average in 14 PSAC East games.

Grant (2-1) hurled his first career shutout, allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out three. The Marauders went to the bullpen after only two innings in game two, and Jesse Mowen (1-0) picked up the win as one of five relievers to work in the game.

The top of the Millersville lineup produced early in game one. Chas McCormick and Orris started with singles, and Zach Stone pushed home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly. Johnson followed with his second home run of the season, giving the Marauders a 3-0 lead.

Millersville threatened in the third and fourth but didn't score again until a three-run fifth using the long ball. Johnson tagged his second homer of the game and Tyler McDonald provided a two-run blast. The Marauders tacked on two more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Mark Stuckey and a wild pitch that scored McDonald.

Grant did not face more than four batters in any of the seven innings and only two Bald Eagles reached scoring position.

Johnson drove in the Marauders' first run in game two as well, plating Orris with a single. Lock Haven, however, score two off of Millersville starter Cody Stoneback in the first, forcing the Marauders to play from behind. Millersville retook the lead in the third when McDonald and Dan Neff drove in three runs with back-to-back doubles. Kurt Seiders followed with a run-scoring single to put the Marauders in front, 5-1.

Millersville put the game well out of reach in the sixth with a RBI double from McCormick and a two-run single from Orris.

Mowen allowed one run and struck out two while working the third and fourth innings. Adam Zipko pitched the final two innings, striking out four.

The wins made Millersville the first PSAC East team to 10 division wins. The Marauders begin a pivotal PSAC East series with Shippensburg on Friday and play two against the Raiders at Cooper Park on Saturday.
