Stone Gets 200th Hit as Marauders Edge Tiffin

Box Score Williamston, N.C. - Zach Stone's third inning RBI single marked the 200th hit of his Millersville baseball career, and the run that crossed the plate was one of four the Marauders scored in Sunday's 4-3 victory over Tiffin.

Millersville (6-2) received five innings of outstanding bullpen work from Logan Grant (1-0) and Adam Zipko. Grant surrendered just one hit and struck out four in three innings to earn his first career win. Zipko notched his 14th career save and stayed perfect in save chances by working the final two innings.

Stone finished the afternoon 2-for-5, pushing his career hits total to 201. He is one of just five players in school history to reach the milestone. Sophomore Dan Stoltzfus also recorded two hits and drove in a run.

Millersville raced to a 4-0 lead with two runs in both the third and fourth innings. With two outs in the third, four consecutive batters reached base. Stone singled in Chas McCormick, and one batter later, Stoltzfus drove in Kurt Seiders. The Marauders built the lead to four in the fourth when McCormick drove in two with a double.

Tiffin (1-1) scored all three of its runs off of starter Tad Barton in the fourth. The Dragons threatened in each of the first three innings but stranded six runners. So spectacular defensive play by second baseman Mark Stuckey helped end the third. He made a diving stop on a line drive and was a part of the the second and third outs as well.

Tiffin broke through in the fourth, though. Two singles, one walk, one hit batsman, an error and a wild pitch helped push across three runs to cut Millersville's lead to one.

That lead remained as Grant and Zipko stymied the Tiffin lineup over the next five innings. Zipko walked two batters in the eighth inning, but David Pine threw out one runner trying to swipe second, and Zipko picked the other off of first base. Zipko plunked the second batter of the ninth inning but ended the threat with a strike out and pop up.

Millersville is tentatively scheduled to play at home this weekend. Continue to check millersvilleathletics.com for updates.
