Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• Millersville continues its season-opening round trip and enters PSAC Eastern Division play on Tuesday against longtime rival West Chester. The Marauders enter divisional play 1-1, and the start of Millersville's schedule is daunting. The Marauders open with four road games for the first time since taking an early season trip to Alaska in 1988-89. Also, Millersville's first four opponents were all picked No. 1 or No. 2 in the conference preseason polls. Additionally, Millersville is 20-54 on the road since 2007-08.
Fred Thompson is 11-5 in PSAC Eastern Division openers.
•
Eddie Callender started his Millersville career in impressive fashion, scoring 22 points with eight rebounds and seven steals against Bowie State. He followed that effort with eight points, four steals, four assists and six boards against Lincoln. He leads the team in scoring, assists, steals and rebounds. Callender is the PSAC leader in steals with 5.5 per game. His seven steals were the most by a PSAC player since Gannon's Adam Blazek totaled nine twice in 2011-12. It ranks as the second-most in Millersville history behind
Charlie Parker's eight against Kutztown in 2007.
• Like Callender,
Shawn Williams made an immediate impact. Williams started his season with a pair of double-digit scoring performances to average 14.0 points, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists. Williams displayed a knack for getting to the free throw line. He attempted 17 free throws, sinking 14 for an .824 percentage. Williams ranks second in the PSAC in free throws attempted and his percentage ranks second among players with at least 12 attempts.
• Freshman
Sam Light looked like a freshman in a rocky season opener in which he shot 1-of-8 from the field and committed four turnovers. But Light quickly acclimated to the collegiate game with a solid 11-point performance on 4-of-11 shooting against Lincoln. Light came to Millersville after scoring a Northern Lebanon record 1,655 points.
• Winning in Hollinger Fieldhouse is no easy task for the Marauders. Millersville last won in Hollinger in the 2012-13 season, and historically, the team has struggled in the building. Millersville is just 3-17 in the building since 1995 and just 2-16 in regular season games. Millersville has scored more than 70 points just once in the last 10 games there. While West Chester owns a decided advantage at home, the all-time rivalry, in its 192nd meeting, is one of the most competitive in the PSAC. Millersville holds a 97-94 edge in the all-time series.
Fred Thompson started 2-8 against West Chester but has gone 13-12 since 2002-03.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• West Chester was picked to finish No. 2 in the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Poll after reaching the NCAA Atlantic Regional with a 20-10 overall record in 2013-14. Senior Cory Blake, who averaged 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game last season was a Preseason All-PSAC East pick. West Chester lost longtime standout guards Troy Hockaday and Shannon Givens from that club. Blake opened the season with 23 points in the 73-54 win over W.Va. Wesleyan. Junior college transfer Avery Brown scored 15 in the opener and 14 in the team's loss to Fairmont State.
