GAME NOTES
· Millersville scored a key 77-73 victory over Kutztown on Wednesday and continues its push toward .500 and a PSAC Tournament playoff spot at Cheyney on Saturday. Millersville's last three games have been decided by no more than six points and the last two have come down to the final possession. Six of the Marauders' eight losses have come by nine points or less. The other two losses came against East Stroudsburg and IUP--both ranked in the nation's top 10. Millersville must figure out its road woes. While it is 6-1 at home, it is 0-7 on the road with an average margin of defeat of just six points. Millersville hasn't posted a winning record on the road since going 10-7 in 2007-08. Since then, the Marauders are 46-29 at home and 16-56 on the road. Â
· Since starting 2-6, the Marauders are 4-2 with the only two losses coming on the road by a total of seven points. In those four wins, Millersville led California by as many as 25, Slippery Rock by 19, Edinboro by 42 and Kutztown by 27. In the last six games, the Marauders are averaging 80.5 while hitting 42.6 of their 3-pointers. Millersville averaged just 71.8 points, 29.6 percent shooting from three and 36.9 percent from the field in its opening eight games. The Marauders' field goal percentage has jumped over 30 points in its last six games.
· As well as the Marauders have played offensively, the defense has improved just as much. The Marauders are holding teams to 72.8 points per game over the last six, compared to 80.5 over the first eight games. The opponents' shooting percentage dropped from 47.1 to 43.0 and from 45.7 from three to 29.7. Millersville has averaged 22.6 points off of turnovers in its six wins and just 12.8 in its losses. The Marauders ranke second in the PSAC in blocked shots, third in steals and third in turnover margin.
· Tavon Parker, the back-to-back PSAC East Freshman of the Week, scored 12 points against Kutztown, registering double figures for the five consecutive game. In his last five games, he's hit 48.3 percent of his shots from the field and 21-of-42 threes for a team-best 16.3 points per game. He is second in scoring among PSAC freshmen.
· Over the last six seasons, the Millersville/Cheyney rivalry has been as competitive as any. The last 10 meetings have been evenly split with six of those games being decided by less than 10 points. Each of the last four games have been decided by no more than eight points. Six of the last eight games between the teams played in Cope Hall have now been decided by fewer than seven points. Since
Fred Thompson took over in 1998-99, 18 of the 32 games played have been decided by single digits. Thompson's teams are 8-7 at Cope Hall.
ABOUT CHEYNEY
· Cheyney won nine of 12 games including five in a row. to conclude the 2012-13 season with a 14-12 record. The Wolves will need a similar rally after starting 2-13. The Wolves are currently on a seven-game losing streak, but the majority of the losses have been close. Four of their losses have been decided by four points or fewer. Both of the team's wins came against the PSAC East, so it is currently sitting in playoff position. Both wins also came at home. Deshawn Curtis scored 28 and Jerrod Johnson totaled 24 against Kutztown in their last outing. At 6-6, Curtis is exactly the type of player that gives Millersville problems. He is leading the PSAC in scoring at 22.0 points per game. He also leads the Wolves in rebounding with 8.5 per game. Outside of Curtis, the Wolves are not a potent offensive club, scoring a league-low 62.7 points per game.
