
Lacrosse Overtakes Edinboro to End Skid

Millersville, Pa. - Trailing by three early in the second half and on the verge of its fifth consecutive defeat, the Millersville women's lacrosse team scored nine goals in fewer than 20 minutes to overtake Edinboro for a 14-12 victory.
Millersville (5-4, 1-4 PSAC) received four goals from Kathryn Kehring including three late and the game-winner, and Caitlin Shannon registered all three of her goals in crunch time. Lauren Mateja stopped 10 shots for her fifth double-digit save effort of the season.
The momentarily led by a 3-2 margin in the first half but Edinboro's Shannon Rohrich, who led all scorers with eight goals, scored her team's next five goals, giving the Fighting Scots a 7-5 lead at the break. Rohrich found the net against just 2:27 into the second period, pushing Edinboro's lead to three.
Juniors Brooke Fisher and Shannon jump-started the Marauders' rally, though. At the 25:20 mark, Fisher scored, and Shannon pulled the Marauders within one at the 22:10 mark. Rohrich put Edinboro back on top by two just 41 seconds later.
The Marauders trailed 9-7 for the next six minutes. Edinboro keeper Autumn Held saved a shot by Hannah Vogel, but Vogel quickly forced Held into a turnover. Vogel then found a wide open Shannon streaking toward the net, and Shannon buried the shot to pull Millersville to within one again.
The back-and-forth continued with Edinboro's Anna Purdy scoring on a free position and Fisher scoring on an Abby Mack assist at the 12:20 mark. Finally, with 11:37 to go, Fisher drew a free position and beat held to tie the game at 10-10. Rohrich halted the Marauder run momentarily with her own free position goal 18 seconds later. Millersville managed to knot the game at 11 when Mack assisted Kehring.
Exactly 30 seconds after Kehring's goal, Shannon scored a free position goal to give the Marauders the lead they had been desperately chasing. Kehring tacked on a free position goal of her own, and after Edinboro cut the Marauders' lead to 13-12, Kehring scored again at the 5:10 mark to boost the lead to 14-12.
Millersville essentially played keep-away for the final five minutesEdinboro did not attempt a single shot the rest of the way.
Saturday's tilt was game two of a five-game home stand. The Marauders host Kutztown Tuesday at 4 p.m.
