Fisher's Four Goals Fuels Win Over Kutztown

Millersville, Pa. - Leading goal scorer Brooke Fisher scored four goals and added three assists as the Millersville women's lacrosse team defeated Kutztown by a score of 15-11on Tuesday afternoon to win its second game in just four days.

Millersville (6-4, 2-4 PSAC) matches its season win total (6) from last year with six games still remaining on the schedule. Fisher's seven points was the second most for the junior this year. Hannah Vogel also registered a hat trick for the Marauders and Kathryn Kehring gathered four points on two goals and two assists. Kehring now leads the team with 10 helpers on the season. Goalkeeper Lauren Mateja stopped nine shots against the Golden Bears and was one save away from her sixth 10 plus save effort of the season.

With the score 7-4 at the break, head women's lacrosse coach Mia Hall must have lit a fire in her team during her halftime speech. The Marauders opened the second half scoring five straight goals, three alone by Fisher, and opened their lead to eight. The Millersville defense was just as impressive holding Kutztown without a goal for over 12 minutes of game play during that stretch.

The Golden Bears did not go away easy as Kutztown scored three in a row and five of the next six goals to pull within four with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.

Fisher responded to the threat by assisting on two consecutive goals, one by Ashley Henderson and one by Kehring, to solidify the Marauder victory.

With the win the Marauders have now won eight consecutive games against Kutztown and have outscored the Golden Bears 119-58 in those meetings.

Millersville has taken advantage of their home turf going 4-2 in Biemsderfer Stadium overall and 2-1 against PSAC opponents.

Hall and the Marauders face teams with losing records in three of their final six games. If Millersville wins just one of those contests it will be the first time since 2008 that the team has won at least seven games. If they can win three more contests, it will be the first time since 2001 that they have captured nine victories in a season.

The women's lacrosse team continues to play at home on Saturday as they face the Warriors of East Stroudsburg. The Marauders will honor their seniors during the game. The opening whistle is set for 1 p.m.
