Harrisburg, Pa. - The Millersville men's golf team placed third Tuesday in the Messiah Invitational and in what it hopes is a final regular season tune up for the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional. Jonathon Heile's third-place finish made him the top individual Marauder.
Millersville will learn of its postseason fate on Friday when the final NCAA Atlantic Region rankings are released. The Marauders ranked eighth in last week's poll, which would be good for a spot in the field. Millersville won three tournaments during the 2012-13 season and was the defending champion of the Messiah Invitational but was unseated by Stevenson Tuesday.
Millersville shot a 19-over-par 307 on the par 72 Blue Ridge Country Club. Stevenson put together a 10-over-par round to take the team trophy. Messiah finished two strokes in front of Millersville. Heile's 74 was his best round of the spring and landed him just one shot behind the leader. Freshman Rodney Anders competed as an individual and shot a 5-over-par 77. His score, however, did not count toward the team total.
Conor Gilbert matched Anders' 77, and Kevin Davis and Robby Rowe posted 6-over-par rounds of 78 to finish in a tie for 20th.
The super regional tournament is held at Speidel Golf Club in Wheeling, W.Va., from May 6-8.
