Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - Every Marauder in the starting lineup had a hit and a RBI, and junior
Tad Barton threw seven shutout innings as Millersville crushed Philadelphia 20-2 Sunday afternoon.
The 20 runs came on 15 hits, six walks, four hit batsmen and eight Philadelphia (2-6-1) errors. It was also the most runs scored by a Millersville (11-4) club since defeating Montclair State 22-7 on May 4, 2000.
Zach Stone led the Marauders by going 4-for-5 with a RBI and three runs scored.
Jeff Heisey drove in four runs, and
Mark Stuckey hit a 3-run home run.
Tad Barton (2-1) won for the second time in as many starts. He blanked the Rams on five hits and one walk while fanning five over seven innings.
The Marauders certainly took advantage of the Rams' miscues. Nine of the runs scored were unearned. Starter David Lerro (0-1) surrendered nine runs--four earned--through 3.2 innings. The Rams used eight pitchers in the game.
Millersville took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. King, Stone and
Dan Johnson all reached base and all recorded steals. Stuckey, with two on, blasted his second home run as a Marauder over the left field wall. The team's most productive inning was the sixth when it pushed six runs across the plate.
Millersville returns to the diamond on Wednesday at nationally-ranked Wilmington. The teams will play one, nine-inning game.
