Women's Swimming Sinks Lock Haven in First Home Win

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's swimming team finished first in six different events on Saturday afternoon against Lock Haven and defeated the Bald Eagles, 112-92.

The victory was the Marauders' first home dual meet win of the season. Millersville finished inside the top two in all but one event and swam to the 20 point win. Grace Magerr continued to swim well in the 1,000- and 500-yard freestyled, finishing first in both events on Saturday. Magerr swam season best times in both events and Megan Oxley placed second in the 1,000 free.

Freshman Bree Link also picked up yet another first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. The first year Marauder finished in 1:12.92 and was almost two seconds faster than the closest competitor.

In the 50-yard freestyle Brigid Kavanaugh finished in her best time of the season with a first place result of 25.54. Senior Amanda Thomas continues her impressive senior campaign, finishing first on Saturday in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:19.45.

The final Marauder first-place finish came in the last event of the meet. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kavanaugh, Magerr, Thomas, and Rachel Malampy took the top time with a finish of 3:47.38. Millersville also finished second in the 400-free relay behind the backs of Rebecca Anderson, Meghan Hickey, Marina Barrineau, and Rachel Stump.

Kavanaugh and Malampy each swam to second place finishes in their respective events. Kavanaugh was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.97. Malampy placed second in the 200 free with a result of 2:03.31. Both times were season best results for each swimmer.

Millersville has two weeks off before taking on Division I competition at the Highlander Invitational in Radford, Va. The meet will begin on Nov. 21 and continue through Nov. 23.
