
Women's Swimming Finishes Fifth at Highlander Invitational

Radford, Va. - After three days of competition against Division I opponents, the Millersville women's swimming team concluded the Highlander Invitational with 394 points and a fifth place finish.
The Marauders kept pace with their Division I opponents as the team finished inthe top-eight in all of Saturday's final events. Sophomore Grace Magerr set her second school record at the meet, this time in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Magerr placed eighth with a time of 18:07.05 and beat the previous school record, set by Kara Rapp in 2008, by 14 seconds.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team had the best finish on the day. In the meet's final event the Marauder foursome of Rebecca Anderson, Brigid Kavanaugh, Amanda Thomas, and Rachel Malampy swam three seconds faster than their previous best time of the year and placed sixth overall at 3:41.83.
Thomas also competed in the 100-free and finished sixth with a time of 54.26, a PSAC qualifying mark and her best time of the season.
Freshman Bree Link continued her impressive rookie campaign by hauling in another top-eight result. The first year swimmer finished in sixth place in the 200-yard breaststroke when she touched the final wall in 2:34.60.
In the other two events, the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard butterfly, Millersville had a seventh and eighth place finish, respectively. Freshman Rachel Stump took seventh in the 200-back with a time of 2:14.77 and Jaime Cessna finished the 200-fly in 2:20.94 in eighth place. Stump qualified for the PSAC Championships with her time of 2:13.26 in the 200-back.
Campbell University took the top spot with 1,051.5 points.
Millersville now has an almost two month break before returning to competition. The Marauders next host East Stroudsburg on Jan. 18 at Pucillo Natatorium. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
