Marauders Come Up Short against Vulcans

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's swimming team swam to 19 season-best times on Saturday against California (Pa.), but the Marauders came up just short in a 104-95 loss.

Millersville finished in first place in three events in its first home dual meet of the season. Senior Amanda Thomas led the 400-yard freestyle relay to a top time of 3:44.20. Thomas was complimented by Brigid Kavanaugh, Rachel Malampy, and Grace Magerr. Thomas also swam to the fastest time in the 100 free, posting a finish of 55.26. Malampy was second at 56.47.

Freshman Bree Link had the Marauders only other first-place finish. Link  swam her best time of the season in the 200-yard breaststroke--a time of 2:35.93.

Magerr placed second in both the 1,000 free and 500 free. The sophomore swam more than 20 seconds faster than her previous season best time in the 1,000 free, with a time of 11:02.94.

The Marauders took second and third place in the 200-yard butterfly. Jaime Cessna placed second in 2:25.31 and Adriana Rodriguez took third at 2:35.52.

Three Marauders placed in the top four in the 200 free. Thomas grabbed the home team's best time, finishing in second at 2:02.47. Malampy and Rodriguez placed third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Rachel Stump touched the wall in second place in the 200-yard backstroke. The first-year swimmer's time of 2:18.46 was just 0.23 seconds short of the top time.

Millersville returns to Pucillo Natatorium for their next meet next Saturday. The Marauders will take on Lock Haven at 1 p.m., with a food drive also being held to benefit Water Street Ministries.
