Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team played Seton Hill for the first time on Friday evening and an early goal by the Griffins would be the difference as the Marauders lost, 1-0.
Less than seven minutes into their first action on Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium, the Griffins' Jessica Adams hauled in a pass from Madison Gourley and placed a shot into the back of the net for the lone goal of the game.
Millersville (7-7-1, 6-6-1 PSAC) dominated the game in the second half, taking seven shots to the Griffins' two. Savannah Hall took five of the team's eight shots and nearly tied the game in the second half when her target glanced off of the crossbar. Goalkeeper Olivia Webber made one save in the match.
Seton Hill (5-10-1, 3-10-1) picks up their third win in the conference this season on just four shots and two shots on goal. Griffin goalie Bethany Winter made two saves in her fourth shutout of the year.
Hall's shot in the second half that hit the crossbar was one of two times in the final period that the Marauders were thwarted by the piping. With six minutes to play Millersville forced a corner and as the ball landed in the box Seton Hill was unable to clear it. A Griffin defender tried to kick the ball out by her attempt went the wrong direction, hit the cross bar, and landed right back in the box. Unfortunately for the Marauders, they were unable to capitalize and Seton Hill escaped without any damage done.
Millersville returns to action tomorrow as the women's soccer team competes against another PSAC newcomer in Pitt-Johnston. Game time is 5 p.m. and the Marauders are selling t-shirts and wristbands for Red Card Cancer. More information about the Red Card Cancer events can be found here.
